zx2500 going into protect! Im pissed!

I would seriously ditch the 4 gauge first.

Did you set your gains correctly?

What is your voltage drop at full tilt?

The ONLY time I got my zx2500 to go into protect was when I had dead batteries and the car off and I was burping full tilt. And that's at 1 ohm.

 
Ya the only reason i have 4 gauge is cause i ran out of 1/0 gauge. The gains are only up about 1/4 the way

You think the 4 gauge would be the problem? But why does it only occur after a certain time frame of playing at full tilt

Could just be a voltage issue.

It could be occuring after a certain time frame because the amp cannot operate efficiently with such small wire running to it. The amp struggles to produce power which in turn creates more heat. More heat=thermal protection.

Also, is the amp well ventilated?

 
Yep the amp is right out in the open. I am gonna see if i can get some 1/0 gauge tommorow hopefully thats the problem. I just went for another drive it still does it. Maximum listening volume for me is 29/34 Played at that for about 2 min then I dropped it down to 26/34 played like that for about 5 min then dropped it to 25/34 and it was doing fine

 
IMO I think the amp is drawing power faster than your alternator can keep the batteries charged. I would check the voltage on the batteries when the amp starts going into protect. I had the same problem with my ZX1000....I have a everstart battery and a stock 60amp alt.(for now) and I could have the amp at full tilt when I am turning high RPM on the highway but when I would be stopped at a red light and turning low RPM my alt. wouldnt be charging my batt. as good and my amp would go into protect when it went to pull alot of power. I had 0gauge ground with 4gauge power. I am definatley investing in a big alt. and better battery because I just got a KX2500 and Im gonna get 250 or 300amp alt with a 2400 kinetik. But I really think you need a bigger alternator.

 
**** Its just i know people be running 3000+ watts on stock alts with there amps at 1ohm My amp is wired to 2ohm so theres more resistance. I only have a hc1400 and a hc2400 and my stock alt is pretty beefy 130 amps i belive

 
also my previous setup was a soundstream pca2000d wired at 2ohms doing 1500watts had no problems at all on stock everything battery ect

 
I was reading up a while back about a KX/ZX 2500 and the thread said that for a 2500watt amp, it could pull 250-300amps of power and you should have at least a 250amp alt. to supply the right amount of power for that. Then your alt. also has to run other electrical in your vehicle. So if your alt is a 130, then say your vehicles electrical system takes 50amps to run, then you are left with 80amps to keep your kicker 2500 going at full tilt...I just dont think that the alt. is capable of powering everything in your car plus the amp at full tilt. imho

 
Oh man. Looks like i have some work to do on that thing. Ill go threw it front to back. Ill see you at the shop tomorrow. I wont charge you for the testing. Pmed replied to as well. I knew something didnt seem right when you explained it to me.

 
I hooked up my KX2500 when I got it in to make sure everything worked....I decided to crank it up(remember I have stock elec. with a 60 amp alt.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif) When my amp went to draw alot of power, my lights would not only dim....they went OUT. I know my electrical sucks(for now) but these big amps LOVE power.
