zx2500 going into protect! Im pissed!

after long hard day of installing and uninstalling and installing i think i have found the problem! I had no fuse up under the hood. Had a fuse holder but forgot to put the fuse back in. so the whole time the zx2500 was just being power by the kinetik 2400 in the rear. With no charging or anything. I just through the fuse in up front and gonna let it charge up. The kinetik was resting at like 11.5

ouch!

Glad you found out the problem. I told you to check your voltage drop. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ya like i i talked to dbdesignselite. I told him that the rear 2400 was only at 11.5 volt so he told me to unhook it and that if i wanted a little bump to just hook the wire from the 1400 upfront to the amp. I then realized that when i hooked the wire from up front the amp didnt turn on. So i went and checked and there wasnt a fuse under the hood. I am so pissed but happy at the same time. I serioulsy uninstalled and reinstalled this thing like all day long since like 11 this morning. glad its on a little problem just hope that i didnt ruin my amp or kill the kinetik 2400!

Ya now im just worried about the amp and battery i hope the amp didnt get damaged at all going in out of protect and hope the battery isnt dead from powering the zx2500 all by itself

Just reading this thread and all of its amatuer mistakes involving such high end gear made me cringe multiple times //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Hey man you gotta start somewhere! This is my first real system. Only second set of subs ive ever owned and i dont feel like wasting 400 bucks for a shop to do it for me!

yeah, but you did so many things that werent too intelligent lol. I bet that you KNEW having a smaller ground wasnt a good idea, but you didnt wanna go buy some more 0 guage. I bet you also knew not f using between your battery and the amp was also a bad idea, but again you didnt wanna throw down the bones/were in such a hurry that ya didnt wanna fix that either.

although these seemed to not be the root of your problems, people gotta learn to slow down, make sure there doing stuff correctly, and make sure their doing stuff right! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Not trying to flame or anything, but we got a zx2500.1's life on the line here!

Glad to hear you've hopefully got the problem worked out....Alex is a cool guy and I'm sure he'll help ya with whatever he can. I'm gonna have him build my next box....

Yea tell me about it.
I was on the phone 5 different times with him. I told him that until you get the 2400 checked out tested etc. and you want to play it a lil to wire up to 8 ohms. off the 1400 he had up front. This after hearing the readings.

I asked him to shut the vehicle off. Grab a DMM and tell me what the front reading is at the battery and the reading at the rear.

Front = 13.15

Back = 11.63 Ouch...

I asked him if hes fused between the batteries and hes said he had a fuse in the back between the front and back batteries. I asked him to check it and he said it was fine.

The whole time im trying to tell him that there is no way that when batteries are wired in parallel and you test will you get a reading that OFF. Normally it tests the same, Unless wire resistance plays a factor.

Well like he stated when i asked him to check the front battery he noticed there was no fuse in the front holder. Double OUCH!!!

All and all the problem was solved and a ZX saved. Poor thing. Well let this be a good resource for when the topic comes up again. Oh and make sure you add that the Protection Circuit On the ZX is pretty bullet proof. That and the fact that it was run 6 feet under the ground, the power and neg where cross-wired when first installed and still survived, that within itself not to many amps would be able to eat that and live to Beat another Day.

Glad to hear you solved the problem....Makes me remember about the time that my remote wire got cut and it was under my carpet so I didnt know that it had been cut. I spent about 4hrs on that thing.

All your assumptions are wrong. I couldnt find 1/0 gauge local number 1. Number 2 you dont have to fuse the wire coming off the battery if its a very short distance.

YES i really appreciate the help. You got into mega detail on some stuff! This guy knows his stuff everyone!

Lets just hope that HC2400 hasn't been murdered.

Like i said on the phone.

Now that you may have brought it back up to slight normal rest still doesn't mean it's good.

There are still a few things that concern me.

1. When your vehicle is running you still are getting a pretty good gap in voltage from the front reading and the rear.

2. Make sure you check all the setscrew connections on all your fuse blocks between the front and rear battery. Fuses DO add resistance on the run.

3. You need to double check your ground points for both the rear location, amp, and front location sense you stated you upgraded the front ground.

4. IMO and i will live by this and always have. You need to add a Run of 1/0 from the "Positive" on the Alternator to the "Positive" on your front battery. MAKE SURE THE CONNECTION IS TIGHT and that the ring terminal DOES NOT and WILL NOT come into contact with the Alternator Casing. AT ALL PERIOD!!

You may want to fuse this lead if you are not comfortable running straight wire. Fuse it as close to the alternator as possible if you are able to.

5. Add a run of 1/0 from the Alternator Bracket that is in direct contact with the casing to the "NEG" Post on your front battery. Make sure its TIGHT, SECURE and there is no need to FUSE this Run.

Finally I would suggest you run a NEG run of 1/0 to the back battery from the NEG Post on your front battery. I say this because from the Voltage differences i am see when your vehicle is running. Secondly its more of a direct pathway for the parallel. connection of your front and back batteries.
