ZED says running @ 1 ohm is dumb

i am running @ 1 ohm and havnt had a single problem with my subs, or amplifier.. and it isnt even bad on my voltage, maintains 13.8-14.2, sometimes not lower than 13.4...
that's not the point. the point is a system with 2 efficient 12's receiving 400wrms@4ohm will sound better and get just as loud as a system with 2 inefficient "high power" 12's receiving 1000-1500wrms@1ohm

what are some high efficiency subs?
I think some examples would help everyone understand (including me lol)
something old would be the first place to start. the most efficient subs I've personally used were jl w0's, lanzar dp15 (I think, i forget the model), and my planet audio zetar I've been using lately

I agree with his post to a certain extent, as their has to be product made for everyone. I am an SQ fan, and I don't usually buy any subs and run them at 1 ohm. On the other side of that, most high power amps aren't going to provide the power that most people with high bass needs would like (At ie. 4 ohms). There is a product for everyone, and this is why there are numerous different manufacturers of car audio equipment. The sixteen year old just getting into car audio is normally going to want anything that gets ridiculously loud, along with the guys shooting for 160dbz. The more SQ oriented individual is going to want to spend more money on something that is more aesthetically pleasing to the ear while being efficient.

if u noticed the keyword is efficiency
It's sensitivity, not efficiency, but you definitely have the right idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If a sub running at 4 Ohms takes 1 watt to reach a given volume level, the same sub at 2 Ohms will need 2 watts to reach the same level and so on. As no amplifier acts as a perfect voltage source, one is better off running the driver at the higher impedance.

i agree to a certain extent, BUT the sub i currently run sounds better at 2ohms than @ 8ohms!

at 8ohms it sees 250 watts, at 2 ohms it sees 1000 watts... power does make a difference...

the sub i plan to get this spring (morel ultimo) can handle 1000 watts all day, in comes in 4 0hm and 2 ohm versions, bet your *** im getting the 2 ohm!
