you sturrin at me brah?
i recently had zed audio do an amp repair for me, and since steven took longer than expected (not his fault, american bass was being very unsupportive) he sent me a free amp. its a boss chaos rev-1200, 250x4 @ 2 ohm.

now, i know what boss is and what they make. but i know the same thing about zed audio. what in the hell is zed doing building amps for boss? are they better in any way than non-zed boss amps? i'm not planning on using it, just trying to get an idea what to ask for it on ebay/classifieds.

im positive i saw those boxes, there were too many to say they were there for repairs. Plus there were boxes of manuals for boss amps. It doesnt suprise me seeing how they build all the old amplfiers for other companies.

interesting, i never even knew zed built amp for a company like boss. U sure he just didn't grab a cheapo amp he had laying around? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
it says on the box and manual handcrafted in the usa by zed audio.

I wouldn't expect them to be quite the quality of some of his more renouned designs (such as ESX, Rodek and older Hifonics and Lanzar Opti's) but should still be quality amps. Here's a quote from Stephen Mantz;

"THESE BOSS AMPLIFIERS WERE MADE IN THE USA By Zed Audio. THE POWER SUPPLIES AND AMPLIFIERS ARE THE SAME AS THE USACOUSTICS [older Zed designed models]. SINCE ZED AUDIO DESIGNED AND BUILT THEM THEY ARE OF THE SAME QUALITY AS THE USACOUSTICS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE PREAMPLIFIER FEATURES AND OF COURSE THE CHASSIS.

ON ALL THE BOSS AMPS (CHAOS, HAVOC AND CLR SERIES)SINCE Zed Audio DESIGNED THESE AMPS I KNOW THAT THE ACTUAL CONTINUOUS POWER RATINGS ARE APPROXIMATELY 50% OF THE stated manual FIGURES."

Notice how even the Zed built amps were overrated by Boss //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I believe he built for Boss in the late 90's.

Yes Zed Audio made many amps for many companies as well as Boss Audio.

They can't be that bad as Zed stated same as us acoustics etc.

Steven has excess stock of them.

Try it out or just put it on ebay.

Good luck buddy.

also, it should go without saying, the customer service of zed audio is a cut above any i've dealt with, not just in the car audio industry, but of any company.

Boss amps aren't really that bad for the money. Of course, I wouldn't put a Boss 800w amp against a good Alpine or comparable brand... Its all in how you look at the amp. If you look at its RMS rating, and cut that down to 60% of RMS rating... then thats what I would compare it against. My buddy's Boss isn't bad. It gets a little hot, but for $75, 600w rms (according to boss) at 4 ohms bridged is a hell of a deal. Even if its 400w rms $75 isnt bad.
