excelerater,

How you liking the bass for that now that you had it for awhile?

Phil

Woodlawn Cabinetry

Let me try and clear this up for the last timeI have built these subwoofer enclosures in the extra cab trucks for 20 years now;

Since the first Chevy one came out (can’t count how many I have done)

I have also built countless down fire boxes in the same trucks

I normally have 2 to 4 inches between the seat and subwoofers; I have a full set of jigs (cut patters with the proper distance) The truck in the picture is one of my coworkers, the original box was made for 2-12” subs with deep magnets After blowing a sub (no easy repayment available) I just cut a new top for 4-10” Subs (added to the top on the 2-12” box)

SO GIVE ME A BRAKE!!!!!!!

I said in the earlier post the (you can make the height of the box lower if needed

NEXT:

For the down fire issue

Why do we down fire??

To load and control the bass wave

This can be accomplished by loading the driver in ANY Direction, Back, and Side and yes even up into the seat (has the same type benefits)

So how much space do you have with your down loaded box to the floor (for the Sub????

How much air space do you have in the down fire box?????

Which I have stated I have built over and over….

Why do I build the up loaded box ?????

For the Air Space !!!! And you get more mounting depth for deeper subs. WOW

That’s why the four 10” Subs work so well: with this design you get ALL the available air space (no loss of space due to the counters of the floor)
Lets start with the pic. If the box was for deep-mount 12's, and the 10's are clearly hitting the bottom of the seat easily, why wouldn't we think your original idea, with the dual 12's didn't also hit the seat? Im confident it did, and it is a bad design, 20 years of experience or not.
Now lets discuss a loading wall, as you mentioned. Nobodu suggested you cannot 'load' a subwoofer in an up-firing position. However, if you think you will convince me you are 'loading' those subs against seat foam.... well you'll never convince me of that. A 'loading' wall consists if a rigid surface to reflect sound, not a surface that will absorb the sound. And, a loading surface is intended be be placed at least a few inches away from the speakers (or port), having it so close that the surround literally touches it every cycle is not 'loading' the sound waves properly. Its just placing a subwoofer too close to an offending surface, and trying to make a smart sounding excuse for doing it. Its no big secret, building up-firing boxes under a seat is the easiest way to do it.

Save all the space you want going with up-firing, you are still firing into a seat and losing alot of output AND predictability of freq response. Id rather down-fire with smaller subs than to try and stuff slightly bigger subs in that fire in a much-less-than-ideal direction.

Dont get so defensive. If you dont want people giving their opinions fo your install, I suggest never posting pics or info about it. Otherwise, learn to endure. Hell, if you're really good you'll learn to learn from the criticism.

Mr. Audioholic

Not sure way I’m wasting my time with a complete idiot such as your self

Well if you call me a liar and\or question my experience: you’re diffidently an “IDIOT”

The First post: 2-12" or 4-10"

The fourth post on this thread stated:

“Going to be tough getting (4) 10's in there with the proper airspace if you're leaving the seat intact.”

The next and fifth post in the thread was;

”it’s not possible with the seat in there. Even if you raise the seat 2-3 inches, you still won’t get them the proper air space. Well depending on what subs but it will still be hard. I’m working on a design for my 06 Silverado right now”

The next post was; My photo showing the “IMPOSSIBLE”

In response to the original poster want 4-10” sub under his back seat

I never stated that this was the only or best design for said vehicle only illustrated it can be done

Then we have you Mr. Big Mouth Audioholic talking trash about stuff you know nothing about (Car Audio) that can’t be convinced of any thing

You are not Qualified to question one of my good or bad designs or experience

Get a grownup to help you with the pictures

In the pictures with some one sitting in the rear seat; There is 1 ½” between box and the FRONT LIP of the seat

Not Clearly Hitting The SEAT in any way

Next if you knew how the rear seat was constructed; you would know there is an extra 3” of total space from the Front Lip (I have supplied this photo for your enjoyment)

Only loose flapping thin carpet on the bottom of those seats

However like I stated before the box height could easily be adjusted for other applications (regardless of convince you of how to do that)

Also in my previous explanation of adding a extra top to that box (that would be a ¾” add)

Would make the space between the Front Lip of the seat to the box 21/4” with still the extra 3” behind the dreaded carpet

So you go ahead with your Smaller and Fewer down fire Subs (less than ideal setup)

And my guys will be behind you with twice the Bass shaking your truck for ya

What this really represents (other than me getting pissed off; SORRY)

Is an example of unqualified, inexperienced, do it your selfer (arm chair quarterback)

Giving out bad and misleading information and advice by attacking other options that they do not understand

Well I hope you have Learned from this Criticism

Sorry for the rant to everyone ells; Call me a lair or Question Integrity, experience

This is a really Bad Design

Maybe you should pay me to build you a box (No you couldn’t afford me)

Just let me know if you want to go against any of my installs (post you’re Best)

Phil,Youlll have to speak up

I have a slight hearing loss...........//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Its all good phil !

Wow, someone REALLY hates being questioned. LMFAO!!!! Maybe you should get yourself a little more self confidence, if a little criticism from someone on the internet turns you into this big of a dick. Seriously. The fact that you went looking for my posts and to find pictures of my stuff.... because I got you THIS upset... well you just made my day. I hope your ego recovers soon dude.

You are really proud of your 20-25 years of experience in car audio. All that yapping about front lips, me not knowing how the seat is constructed, oh and that you have 25 years of experience..... but at the end of the day you still posted pics of speakers HITTING the seat and blew it off as them being 'loaded'. No good sir, I do not need to get into a pissing contest with you to see your true colors.

Dont like the box Im putting in MY truck? Awww boohoo for me! Feel free to pop on over to that thread and post why. Hell, I asked anyone with negative comments of consstructive criticism to post away. Instead you drag a pic to this thread and snivel about it like a little whiner. So go ahead, hell go post dump in it for all I care. The difference between you and me is, I can take it, you obviously can't.

Oh, and you have NO IDEA what I can afford. You call me the big mouth when clearly you have no problem what so ever spouting facts you know nothing about. Once again another show of the frailty of your ego. And... Im confident that if I wanted I could buy you to wax my floor. How are you at windows?

I asked you to not get so defensive in my last post, clearly that fell on deaf ears. Im questioning something you did, obviously you MUST fight back, right? Obviously you MUST announce you think Im young and dumb to possibly question you right? Well, I take it back. Please please get defensive, I love watching you get your panties all in a wad when I tell your box plan sucked. Hey, at least I explained why.

Ive been called much worse, by much better people than you. If you are trying to upset me, keep trying. *yawn*

I truely apologize that my criticism made you feel so insecure that you felt the need to make such a spectacle of yourself here. My bad.

Have a nice day.

On second thought, lets make this real easy on you Mr 25 years of experience. Just explain to me how you expect a FOAM seat cushion, that physically touches the speaker upon each cycle, to act as a loading surface. If a regular idiot like myself was able to see this problem, surely a seasoned expert and genius like yourself can explain how a non-rigid sound absorbing material, that is not nearly far enough away from the cone, will in fact 'load' the speakers properly. Go ahead and try to explain it, I dare you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
