Your Super low budget build opinions.

I agree...if you take the time to seal up the speakers and add sound deadening along with either bass blockers on smaller speakers or crossovers it makes a huge difference in over all sound..I recall reading about sytems that only had 50 watts rms to 8" subs out doing some bigger set ups with more because it was done correctly.

That's what im going for basicly...my last system was nothing spectacular component wise but surprised quite a few friends for what it was.

I had an older kenwood low end model stereo with some kenwood 2 ways in the doors/dash and rear panels and 2- 6" bazooka tubes powered by an old majestic 150rms 2 way amp (bridged)...Sounded like crap until I sealed everything up (Holes in the doors/Gaps from where the speakers mounted in the doors) and added some dynamat on the doors and trunk..It didn't shake the cars beside me but was super loud inside the car and very clean sounding..Im more interested in sound quality inside the car more than rattling my teeth out..lol..I do want to feel the bass though.

I have a pair of Polk DB series silk dome tweeters that swivel and Polk EX crossovers I can use that I bought at a flea market about 15 yrs ago or longer for $30.00...still works great...just need to find some mid bass drivers to use them.

Ill put this into more perspective for some...Ive never been one to spend the most I could on anything...Ive won in rc racing with way less than some have spent thinking they couldn't win unless they didn't have it...Same with Mountain bikes..never bought a 3k bike thinking I couldn't ride the same trails and the same in drag racing..Raced NMRA back in the day when breaking into the 12s with a 98 percent stock car was the thing..I like being an underdog so to speak with anything I do.

I get more out of that than knowing I just beat someone or was at least close to comparable having spent a lot less..Nothing wrong with having the best if you want it though.

I can afford it, I just don't think I need it for what im looking for.

I'm currently on a budget build and have about 500 in subs, wiring, and building my own box.

My advice would be to just scouring craigslist for crazy deals. Saw a 12" Solo X for $30 on my local CL a couple weeks ago.

Also saw an audiopipe 1500 for $70 at the pawn shop.

Soundqubed HDS212 $85

Knukoncepts KCA Complete 8 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit $17

Kenwood KDC-152 In-Dash MP3/WMA CD Receiver $58

Alpine SPS-610C $71

Some used amp $100 maybe less

That leaves you $169 for speaker wire and a sub box. Just gotta look around. If budget is your goal you can find plenty on amazon and ebay or here. Im sure other people will have better specific options. There are lots of options out there so good luck!

The box sub combo im looking at is tuned and only $79.00 (12"sub/Ported box) ..they make the box to fit the speaker requirements..Not a random prefab box.

The head unit im wanting has 3 sets of pre outs and the higher 4volt outputs for the amp(s) $129.00 (Cleaner sound and ease of install)

I think I may have settled on what I listed and spend about 20 more over the 500 I wanted to spend.

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X597 head unit $129.99

Sound Ordnance M-4050 4 ch. Amp (50W RMS @ 4ohm X 4) $99.99

Sound Ordnance M-1500 Mono Amp (300W RMS @ 4ohm )..Also its 500W rms at 2 ohm if I upgrade to more powerful sub or run dual subs) $119.00

Sound Ordnance B-12 Sub/Tuned box combo ( 250W RMS @ 4ohm ) $79.00

Im still looking for more options but this is looking hard to beat for the money..i can buy used but you don't know what shape things are really in or how hard they've been beaten on...Ive bought some nice stuff from flea markets but some of it didn't last long or was basicly already worn out...had some amps that sounded like crap..speakers partially blown..Component speaker crossovers with burned tweet or sub outputs...Unless I can see it and hear it work I tend to shy away from most used items...The only items I still have I bought from a flea market used is some polk DB tweeters and EX crossovers...Im amazed because at the time the tweeters were $100 each new and I guess 30 35 for the crossovers at the time...I paid 30 dollars for all of it..lol

Sound Ordnance has a 3yr manufacturer warranty parts and labor...That's gonna be hard to beat..lol

The rest im not sure because I haven't got my new car just yet to know what other speaker sizes I need.

I put together systems for people often for the 500 dollar range. No ground pounders or Sq queens but all around good sounding systems. Op, I could posdibly set you up if you want to PM me. I have a bit of excess lol

keep stock speakers, grab a clarion cz702 head unit, get a ppi 900.5 and some cheap sub+ box combo, the rest on wiring done. Even stock speakers will sound miles better on a good head unit with clean power going through them.

Save and upgrade your speakers later when you actually have a budget set aside for them. Everything will be set in place for them though. The main core of your sound system is Signal source(head unit) and power(amp). With the two i listed, you have amazing tuning capabilities, great sound processing inside the head unit and plenty of power and headroom for future upgrades.

You can go cheap with everything else in the system but the amp, head unit and installation are things you cant skimp out on.

For $500 you can get a very nice setup especially if you dont mind buying used, I see high powered woofers and amps go for crazy deals all the time. Hell right now there is a true 2k in the classifieds for $150shipped. Just gotta look around, lots of forums, eBay, Craigslist, pawn shops etc.
