i agree, here in CT half that much will buy you a nice sized house. for a third of that you could get a 3 bed 1 bath ranch...

550k? ****.....for that i could buy a small mansion....u realize thats 1/2 a million dollars?....heh....120,000 would be enough for a decently sized house here in oklahoma.......200,000 for a nice/large one.....

Yeah the housing prices ****. It makes me wish that I grew up out in the country somewhere. I have lived in the bay area (San Francisco high populated lot to do) which makes it tough to adapt to the smaller cities. I have thought seriously about moving out of ca. but then I fear that I will want to move back. I'm thinking about moving to San Diego Ca. (southern California it's a little cheaper), Oregon, Seattle, possibly Ohio. I don't really want to move to the east coast because of the humidity and heat. Everytime I look at the housing prices it discourages me from planning to live here. It's going to take a lot of saving money and a good paying job to own any kind of house. I'm actually (as stupid as it sounds) trying to create an invention that explodes, that way I could get a house and spend the rest of my life increases my education in all areas, rather than going to work everyday. I have some ideas, I just have to think of getting some patents on the stuff. This is one thing that I think I'm good at. I can actually sit in a room and think up inventions. If I could figure out what the job title is for this. It might be research and development, but I'm not really sure. One thing that I should do is travel outside of Ca. that way I know what the other areas in the U.S. are like. I tend to like the political ideologies that other states have a whole lot more than Ca.

thats identical to my house....but my parents paid 750k ten years ago...it has been appraised as high as 3million...but the housing market has dropped off a bit.

THat gives me six more years to save up a lot of money for a down payment. I'm trying to save up $30k (5%) for a downpayment. It will probably be a very small house at $550k to $600k, but it's better than nothing. I've almost paid my frugal 1997 saturn off (about 6 mo. away) and then I figure I'll really be able to save. I agree with you though. It is most important to get the necessities first and the toys second.
I'm an NDE Level II technician and a Maintenance Engineer - I live in rural Minnesota and for this area, make about twice the average wage - so it goes a long way in terms of land value and cash on hand...
