I wonder if the new style K series will sound as good as the current ones? There seems to be less cone area due to the flat-cone and they have tossed aside their elegant aerodynamic basket design in favor of a more generic cast aluminum 4-spoke design. I hope they are as good as the current ones...or ED will suffer for most of their sales are in the K series.

actually due to the design the new K's move more air than the old ones. Also. Due to design, they also sound better, in just about any box.... and don't have any annoying issues with tinsel slap or the like. Flat cone K is a step up in every single way 'imo'.

Also, I wouldn't call the 8spoke too elegent. Mainly we didn't use it becuase 1. it's deeper (and we don't need the depth, so why use it) so our speakers have less mounting depth (BIG PLUS) in custom installs. 2. generic.... or just used. We picked up a standard basket for a few reasons. The HUGE spiders we use on the A series (8.5") spiders won't fit on that elegant basket. So much for that being a good option. The 4 spoke allows us more throw despite popular belief on this one, and a better suspension. The cost between the two is soooooo minimal it's not a issue of lessening costs really at all. The new speakers are that much better than the old ones in reality. Higher usable Sd, more real world linear xmax, woven leads, better fit and finish, and even more overall performance. Same warranty, and same prices (5 dollars more for the flat cone K, but in reality the performance upgrade alone is worth probably quadruple that over the old one.)

Actually with the flat surface your creating less surface area than that of a standard cone. I know i'm just nit-picking...but thats just the way I am. Plus I thought ED was trying to be unique? What is so unique about looking like everyone elses product? I understand from a cost issue that creating a whole new basket design would up the price of the speaker...but at least it would save you from resorting to a cheap basket that just about every other manufacturer uses. I know looks aren't everything with speakers (just take a gander at the Adire Audio Shiva)...but it really does help. For now I'll hold off further judgement until I've seen and heard the new product as I may very well be wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

urm...not exactly that simple, ben's right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

1) nobody else uses that flat cone

2) i dont think anybody else uses the spider arrangement that they are in on the 12A series subs...to my knowledge

3) they are more unique now to any other sub on the market...bar none - the A series subs are imo THE SEXIEST SUBS I HAVE EVER SEEN - unique, and Very Very cost effective for what you get

urm...it's not just some cheap basket, that basket works very well - and why add the cost to something that isnt going to enhance the preformance, and make it look like more of the other drivers on the market (chrome...you know what i'm talking about)

i've got 2 12A's sitting in my floor right now....and as soon as i get the enclosure done i will post and give my thoughts on them, but as far as looks and build quality on these subs

2nd to none....and i wouldnt doubt all of the man hours and hard thoughts that have went into making these totally new drivers

Edit: this post is not to be taken like i'm griping or nagging at you - basically just informing you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif no flaming whatsoever //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I got 3 months to decide if I want these (for 15% off) so I got time to think //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Good thing, cuz thinking is hard for me.
