Yes, Another gain question but this one i cannot find anywhere.

So i have set my gain to around 50 volts with my DMM on my kicker solo baric l7 subwoofer, i'm currently running just one of these with a Hifonics bxi2010d 2000 watt amplifier and it's putting out 1300 watts rms at 2 ohms.

So my question is that since you set your gains with such a strong note(a constant 50hz tone at 0db)

Does this mean after you set it to the desired voltage you can put the treble and put +6 on the bass on the headunit without fear of clipping?

Because i have my Knob turned halfway right now and its loud but when i turn it up all the way its very powerful and i've blown 2 subs so far (rockford fosgate p3d412's)

This sub is fairly new a week old at most and its still breaking itself in, if i play it loud its only for like 2 seconds.

no, you will be clipping the signal after turning the bass up, whatever way you set it(ie:no loud on, bass @ 0 etc) leave it that way. its okay to turn the volume up a few notches above the level you set the gain with(on music only).

there's a reason the gain adjustment is there, to set gain of amp, to output of stereo @ your normal listening volume, if you jack the bass up 6 db from the stereo, you will then be clipping the signal.

my advice to avoid blowing subs

#1- get rid of the kicker, it wont take the 1300 watts long the 15" is rated @ 1000rms, the 12" is rated @ 750 rms. the kickers have enough trouble trying to take RATED(rms), if running higher than rated (rms) its gonna blow eventually. if not soon

#2- reset your gains with no bass boosts, you can have loud on stereo on if you wish, and bass @ zero treble and other stuff wherever you like.(you can also set gains to "limit" the wattage output so you do not blow the sub.)

#3 once set, leave bass adjustments alone, don't use amp bass boost, and don't turn up over a few notches higher on music. music is recorded @ a lower volume than sound tones. therefore when you set gain to a test tone recorded @ 0 db, then turn on music recorded @ -3db, its not going to be as loud. this is the ONLY thing you can go higher on than when you did the gain setting. everything else WILL cause at least a little if not a lot of clipping.
