The idea of life after death is more of a safety-net for the weak minded and weak at heart, IMHO They need to feel the security that they are still with their loved ones, that they are looking down upon us, watching over us, and that we can still "talk" to them. The are too weak to handle the reality that their loved one is gone, for good.
It wasn't "too much church". I wasn't overexposed. Just wanted to make the point that I was raised to believe in god and worship him. And even after I got out of elementary school I continued to believe....heck, I had my daughter was baptised (born when I was 15....yes, born out of wedlock, a cardinal sin, I know). But I matured, started to actually think for myself and came to the conclusion that I no longer believed.
