XXX vs. MX

the point is that its NOT a SPL sub, sure you can use it for whatever you want, but its much the same as the old XXX

I never said it was an SPL sub, because it isn't, but no, it's nothing like the old XXX. Standard overhung DOES NOT EQUAL XBL^2. You own the **** thing and you don't even know the difference!

Let me iterate for our slower listeners here:

1) The XXX, be it the 04, 05, or 06, are all XBL^2

2) The RE MX is an overhung driver.

3) The 04 and 05 XXX have higher linear displacement (and consequently higher linear output) than the MX. (22mm xmax vs 32mm xmax)

4) All the XXX drivers have a MUCH flatter BL curve than any standard overhung driver.

5) As a result of 1,3,4 we can therefore emphatically claim that the 04 and 05 XXX have higher linear output, lower distortion, and greater overall accuracy at any given output level than the MX

All of the things I said above are facts. They are not open to interpretation or debate, and most importantly, nothing I said above, is OPINION.

i honestly dont see how its ownage when im talking about the sound output of both thati have had in the same vehicle the MX sounded cleaner.

maybe you took my blanket statment a little literal about XBL2 and all that, but IMO the MX totally sounded better then the same size XXX i had before it

No one said you cannot like the sound of the MX over the old XXX, but that has nothing to do with the fact that the XXX is without any question the more accurate driver of the two.

Alot of people dont like the sound of a BL optimized driver like xxx's with their xbl^2 motor. They miss that 'edge' the non-optimized motors gave (even harmonic distortion). I have some 05 xxx's, they sound very good, but I actually prefer the sound of my IDQ's. I know the xxx's are outputting less distortion, but I'll be ****ed if I can bring myself to admit I prefer their sound over the IDQ's. *shrug* The difference is, I understand why, you still don't.

I know it has to be hard to go out and buy one of the latest and greatest boners out there and pay premium money for it, only to realize its inferior to the old forum boner that could be bought used for alot less money. We feel for you dude.

They do sound decent...and can be used for SPL...some people use them. I totally agree.
But it's nowhere near a SQ sub.

Oh yeah iirc that's true. But split coil basically does the same thing to the BL curve as xbl^2.

As does LMT, but both are ultimately inferior to xbl^2 IMO, just too many drawbacks.
