xxx not what I expected

Well I finally got my XXX in with everything else but its def. nothing near what I thought it would be. If I turn the bass up too much it starts making a sound like its bottoming or hitting something. Guy at the audio shop says its distortion, I have no idea. Amp isnt really turned up at all, gain is near the lowest setting, bass setting on headunit is 1/4 to 1/2 the way up. All wiring is correct and the amp is a PG Tantrum 1200/1. Box is 2.5^3 @ 32 hz. Any idea? Could the sub be bad? Its the 05' model 12" xxx. I'm really upset now that I've spent the money and the sub isnt even near making my ears hurt loud ha.

You have something messed up, b/c I've heard a 15" XXX in a friends truck and it was very loud and very clear sounding.

If you want come to Fort Smith and you can hear an 18" MT and a 15" XXX, what they are suppose to sound like ;P

It sounds like you need to do some level adjusting. It rarely works out well when you go by ear. I guarantee that the Tantum 1200 and a 12 inch XXX will hurt your ears if set up correctly.

hmm..that is weird. When it left my hands it sounded great. I would suggest checking all the settings on your HU and amp as well. The sub should not even be close to bottoming out at 1200 watts. Check the signal, maybe the amp is clipping?

Just watch it, if you blow the sub then we're both kinda SOL.

distortion at only 1200 watts doesnt sound like a good thing

yep air leak is fixed.....I just dont get it....If its up too loud its just making that sound, not sure what it is. What is clipping?

Some people have a higher "bass tollerance" sp?) if you will.2 12" PBX XS's ported and 1500 watts hurt several peoples ears, but not mine.

Maybe you were expecting too much from it?

Not saying the XXX can't get loud.Just saying, what's loud to one person may not be loud to another.
