xxx not what I expected

ok i heard it today and something is defenitly messed up. The install looked fine. But if he turns the sub up too much it makes a horrible noise. Its not distortion at all, but yet a high pitched pingy sound. I dont know what it is.
Well if the sound is 'high pitched', and the xover is set right, its not a sound created by the sub intentionally. That makes me think its a mechanical issue (lead slap, but I wouldnt call that sound high pitched), vc rubbing, etc.

the LOC has a left and right side knob, both are maxed.
Hmmm. What's the max output voltage for the LOC? Whats the max input voltage for your amplifier. Unless the LOC is very weak, or the amp can handle alot of input voltage, Id guess that's your problem (or part of it).

Id suggest having someone who knows what their doing with an o-scope adjust your gains for you.

You never answered where you have the LOC wired in to the stock system. If it is anywhere near the rear speakers, you are sending an ampilfied signal to it. The Mach 460 system has two amplifiers, I think they are under the rear deck. You need to get the signal to the LOC before it hits those amps(right behind the the HU would be the best) or it will sound like shit no matter how the gains are set. Rewire the LOC and I promise you will find what you are looking for.

Well I finally got my XXX in with everything else but its def. nothing near what I thought it would be. If I turn the bass up too much it starts making a sound like its bottoming or hitting something. Guy at the audio shop says its distortion, I have no idea. Amp isnt really turned up at all, gain is near the lowest setting, bass setting on headunit is 1/4 to 1/2 the way up. All wiring is correct and the amp is a PG Tantrum 1200/1. Box is 2.5^3 @ 32 hz. Any idea? Could the sub be bad? Its the 05' model 12" xxx. I'm really upset now that I've spent the money and the sub isnt even near making my ears hurt loud ha.

Same thing happened to me man...like...exactly the same thing....only I had a 15..it was bottoming out pretty early for what I expected the output to be....My friends 12w7 SPANKS it...yea thats right...you all heard me...SPANKS it. off of 1000 watts in a 5.2 cube ft. box.

Install must have been complete crap. 15xxx>12w7 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Even if I do hate REs CS.

Listen to this man.

i suggested the loc a long time ago and i still stand by it. having worked on mach 460 system pusstangs, i stand by what i said. i hate that setup as the new one's in the 06' gt that my fiance's dad has. i still say rip the entire stock stereo out and replace it.

something was obivously wrong...because my 15 xxx blurred my eyes bad, clogged ears in about 2 seconds, and didnt bottom out with 2200 watts unless you played below 30hz

The amp is not stable at 1 ohm mono! Please do not listen to this!
I hate to say it but because that the seller appears to know absolutely nothing about car audio, I would be very worried about how he treated the sub.

Dude, I mean, I effed up. Honestly. On one thing.

For you to jump to conclusions like that is kinda, eh, not that cool.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I just read it wrong on PG's website, my bad.

I do mess up occasionally, but that's how you learn man, sorry bout that, and I think if you look at the link in my sig and see some of the work I've done, you will (hopefully) think otherwise.

I'm not a professional, but to say I know nothing about car audio and that I treated the sub badly is a little bit erratic and ghey, plus it puts me in a bad position. Do you understand that?

I do have several people that can vouch for me (including well respected forum members) that the sub did leave my house in working condition, so unless FedEx fuxored it, then I think something is still wrong with your wiring/amp settings/something. I'm doing a huge build on a 300C this weekend (http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?p=254255#post254255) so I'm pretty busy, but either Dom (ProfessorJustice) or I will IM you on Sunday or Monday so we can figure this out.

You never answered my ?, how did the packaging appear when the sub was delivered?

Sorry for any confusion, DO NOT wire that sub to 1 ohm. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

edit: Also, take pictures of your amp settings and set-up in general so we can help a little better.

Well that little mistake could have turned a nice amplifier into a quite expensive paper weight...

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I stand by my original statement. I mean, you honestly did not know that an amplifier that is stable at 2 ohms would be stable at 4 ohms. That is not a mistake, that is just inexperience. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

x2. You already have a problem with the sub, dont screw up the amp. Also, how the hell would anyone think an amp wouldnt be stable at 4 ohms, if the website says its stable at 2? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
