It probably is the amp. Turn some song with real low bass on repeat and just mess with your settings. I just got my 15" XXX as well and I was havin the same problem. It wasn't hitting the lows, I messed with it, it wasn't hitting the highs, I messed with it, now I seem to have found a middle ground. Also I have noticed the past few days that it is hitting a wider range of notes the more I use it, so I'll agree with the spider loosening up. Definitely change that 8ga ground wire too... okay i fixed the prob a little bit, i ran auto eq and time alignment, it brought everything together and messed with the sub a little, i also messed with some other things, but some of the lowend is missing, so if anyone finds it let me know, and i switched the phase on the amp but nothing, and i have the pos to pos and neg to neg on amp, and im sure its right on the sub too, but maybe it will find its home later when the sub breaks in more

so can we rule out its the amps fault? i dont believe an amp has to do with the way a sub sounds, ill hook my viper back up and see, if it sounds right ill know its either the wires or the amp who knows

Amps play a large role in what your sub will sound like. What are your filters set at? What direction do you have the sub pointed in your car? Sounds like your gain is wrong and your crossovers are off. How many voicecoils are there? Maybe you wired the sub incorrectly.

Yes amps themselves do effect the sound. Try a Legacy amp with the same settings as a say Fosgate amp. You will notice the difference. Even at the same power lvl's. Amp's are not all made equally...

There is no way to tell with out trying them. Is it possible? yes. Likely? no. In most cases you wont be able to hear a difference. Even if there is any.

I noticed the most drastic changes from a legacy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif to a Hifonics/JL/RF. My old JL and fosgate amps had no audible change when compared to each other. Other than output. And more than likely was due to the power difference between the 2. Even when I switched out my Hifonics for my Orion there was a huge difference in sound. Not just output.

A lot of people will try to argue the watt is a watt theory. And in almost all arguments they are correct. A watt is a watt. But an amp is no more equal to any other amp on the market...

Agree completely with Trigger. If you had a very shitty amp, youd be more likely to hear a difference......with a decent amp already, probably wont be too much of a factor.
