Xenon 200.4 seems too hot

Yeah dual 4 gauge for each pos and neg you would think would be enough for 800watts. I’m using knu copper wire. Wire doesn’t get hot. Gains are set with dd1. They’re close to halfway. I’m only running mids and tweets but that usually doesn’t matter. There’s not a lot of space around it but it’s not crammed either. It’s hanging on the wall right behind my seat. Probably close to a foot all the way around. I tried a fan under it one time and it really helped.
This might be an issue. With 800 watts, you should be setting your gain to 28.28 on thee ol DMM.....1/2 way sounds overkill. MOST amps' gain are around 1/4 turn give or take a little.

I’m not positive where the gain is. Somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2. Probably closer to 1/2. Those amps are known to be hard to drive. Back in the day most people used a line driver on these amps. Fortunately the pioneer has enough output. I will set the gains again when I reinstall. One thing though. When I set the gains my car was not running so maybe the difference in voltage?

Yes, car running...because we all drive around listening to our stereos //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Why were those amps hard to drive?

it actually doesn't matter, some amps have sensitive potentiometers and some dont. More than half or half way doesnt matter if its matched properly with the head unit-preout voltage especially if its a weak pre-out voltage. Its not anywhere near clipping or distortion in that case. Just usually when the gain is over 70% to get full power, that just means things from the signal line needs to be beefed up. Not totally necessary but its nice to do. Either way your amp is still putting out the same power.

Op is running the most popular HU, 80prs...which puts out 5 volts. I could be wrong or right...dunno. But...certainly in his situation wouldn't hurt to check it out.

If i ran a hifonics amp my gain would need to be at 60-70% to get full output. It varies depending on the amp. some amps go from 0.2 volts to 5 volts and some go from 0.2 to 9 volts. Brazilians are more like 0.2 to 2 volts.

Got it chief. And since you made me think of it, gotta figure out where the gains gon' be set at on my new amp.

i Really appreciate all the input. When I remount it I will leave enough space behind it to allow some airflow. If it gets too hot again I will put a fan under it. That help a lot before. It seems to be working the way it should. I know a/b Amps run pretty hot and I was just kinda hoping someone would say that it’s just the design or that they normally run hot. Maybe I’ll be more careful or maybe bridge it to my kids and get another amp for the tweets. Lol.
The fan is on top. If it's getting hot but not cutting off its fine.

Mine was on my mids and tweeters it never got hot.

My 3 100.2s never get any hotter then air temporary.

I have two of them bridged at 8 ohm one per midbass and the other one drives to 4 ohm tweeters

I’ll see what happens with the shorter cable. What kind of load would your amps be seeing bridged to 8 ohms? Those amps are impede de controlled or whatever you want to call it. Would it up the output so you would get the same as bridged to 4 ohms? Something popped up on Craigslist locally. A 100.2 brand new in box for $120 Canadian.
