X15s enclosure

I want to make a new box for my X 15s. They are currently in a box 7cubic ft tuned at 30hz. Should I do a box that Sundown recomends on their website? Or keep a standard slotted port box? All my music is decaf ranging 26-60hz and it's currently on a abph4000 at half ohm. Any ideas and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

If all your playing is decaf... I'd go a bit larger than recommended in airspace with a good amount of port area. Aispace is a bit more important than port area in your case, you really just want low tuning, large airspace and enough just enough port area to support the build. I mean if you have a lot of room, go big all around, but if you have to skimp in one area, I'd do a bit less port to keep tuning and length in check while maximizing airspace. Those X's have a lot of mechanical throw, give them a box where they can use it.

In my vehicle the biggest i can go is 8cubic ft. Unless I take my back seats out.. But I'm not leaning towards that too much. Will 8 be big enough? and also i plan on doing double layers of MDF all around, Is that a good idea? Or just keep it double on the faceplate?

its never a "bad" idea make the box as stiff and rigid as possible. Less box flex = more bass output. i made my 4th order from 1" mdf all around and the thing flex like crazy. and thats with just two type r 15's on a 1000w kenwood amp. the type x's get down so i would say with that big of a box yes double the whole thing and reinforce it too.

im jealous of your type x hopefully thats my next buy after a new amp

Thanks man I appreciate it. This box now just recently came apart:( so hopefully this next one I'm making won't.

And on bracing, what should I use for internal bracing? I want to make this box one that will last a good while, do y'all have any advice on what I should do and use for bracing?

Bracing is probably a good idea and a better idea than double baffling all around.. Get some threaded rod, double baffle your front face where the subs mount and leave the rest single baffled. Threaded Rod across the middle of the long sides that aren't braced by the port walls. Double baffling is REALLY going to eat into your airpsace without making any major improvements. The longer a panel is, the easier it will flex, so double baffle your longest panels, your front and that's it... You could also try making the box out of 11ply birch instead of MDF if you can find it in your area. It's lighter and stronger than MDF.

Ur best bet is to pay someone to design a box for ya . Its cheap and takes all the guess work out of it all. @Buck; designs all mine ..they have all been epic
