wtf? W hats up with my amp

Well I have 2 alpine type r subs and had a kenwood kac 7203 sub hooked up which is 500 w bridged at 4 ohms. I just hooked up my new amp a alpine pdx 1.1000 which is 1000w at 4 ohms. What I don't understand is not only did the kenwood sound better it also hit much harder than the alpine even though the alpine is twice as many watts. I do have an 80 amp fuse hooked up to the power wire not sure if that would affect anything or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The kenwood is 500x1@4, the alpine is 1000x1@2. So with the alpine at 4 ohms as you have it, you're really getting closer to 500 watts. That being said, the alpine is more likely to give you the full 500watt or more while the kenwood is probably a bit overrated, therefore the alpine should still have the potential to be louder. I'm guessing your issue is in the wiring or tuning of the amp.

The alpine is rated at 1000w for both 2 ohms and 4 ohms

Make sure your subs are actually wired for 4ohms, check that your input is good, then check your gains.

Checked to make sure everything is wired up correctly and it is, so I messed with the volts and the gains in the amp. With the gain turned all the way up and the volts set to 1-8 you can barely hear the subs and with it set to .1-1 it sound like absolute crap. I don't understand how the kenwood sounds a million times better

You have some good questions asked for you in this thread that you have ignored. Now for the obligatory lesson about the gain setting - never just crank the gain up to max. It's not a volume knob. The gain setting is to match the input of the amp to the output of your head unit. Do a search for "how to set the gain on my amp" on this forum or Google and read.

The "1-8" or ".1-1" setting is to set the correct voltage range for your RCAs. For example, if you have 4V outputs use the "1-8" setting.

make sure you dont have the filters set wrong, or have multiple filters(HU and Amp)
