I would think you could find someone selling a used one cheap, after all its just a dumb dc motor with limiters

The lenses could be dirty. I'm not so sure about sensorless units, unless they have new ways to prevent that door from crushing something. California has a law mandating that shit, and making sale of units, or repair, illegal.

a manual door that you open by hand will never give you these problems.
