WTF...high pitch noise coming from head unit?

So I have this super high frequency high pitched sound coming from my head unit itself. Like literally when I put my ear up to the head unit I can hear it coming from inside of it.

It's a Kenwood KDC-X990. The sound is audible enough to annoy the sh*t out of you at low volumes. This happens when the unit is on both radio and CD source.

Is this caused by a bad ground or or is the head unit f*cked?

From past experiences loud whining noises desnt mean something good.

Should I try regrounding the HU before tossing the sucker on Ebay?

check all the wires and make shure nothing is shorting out

my pioneer did that when one of my polks was grounding out on my rear deck. but it was fixed by ungrounding it

The internal amp is off inside my HU. Running components off an external amplifier.

So you fixed it by ungrounding what? Are you saying your rear Polk speakers wire was touching the metal?
