see, this is EXACTLY the scenario i was talking about........ 11 posts of bs bashing before genuine interest in helping......... not great for technical traffic. would be great if this thread got cleaned up.
anywho- back to the task at hand. i'll go look for the other thread, and get the skinny, but could you post up all info? could really be that there is a problem in the kenwood, such as bad capacitors, or an rca channel. could be sub orientyation, really many things..

Clarion HU,

Kenwood kac-9105d Brand new.

Ported box, custom not sure on volume,

Voltage has read good at amp and battery,

I've done a lot of messing around with gains.

I have had two different systems through this car with the same exact sound issues. I had used everything at first. Now I have new everything and am still experiencing this really bad output.

IN ALL HONESTY, that Kenwood amp could be the problem, the box (btw do you know the specs/tuning of it?), or the car itself

OP i pm'd you. if your near cincy i could take a look and listen this weekend. i'm by no means a pro, but i have been doing my own installs on friends and family cars since 1993, so i got a bit of exp.

well, take the head unit and rcas out of the equasion. grab a rca-to-3.5mm headphone jack cord, and play the amp off a portable player. if it sounds 10x better, there is your problem. also, measure for voltage drop at the amp at high volume. one thing, though, you need to pull the subs out og the box, and take some measurements, so the internal volume can be measured, and measure HxW of the ports, as well as how deep. the wrong box, not only can sound bad, but also has potential to damage the subs
