Would you use this charger?

15 VOLTS up to  40 AMPS for  $25

thats the info you need for cheap 12 volt power...

read it ... it is very detailed in principal and simple to implement

you can even daisy chain muliple PS units to a common load for more amps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I do it for my 1/24 and 1/32 scale slot car tracks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif and they require the same type of power supply the OP listed...

it is how I found out about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have converted a pc power supply for use in my R\C Helicopter hobby. It is a great source for a Bantam bc8-hp I use to charge my Li-Po batteries but I appreciate the link anyway.

I also use 6 of them chained for bench testing 2kw amps....

works for about 5 minutes at full tilt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and they make great battery chargers too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Do u have any batts connected to the array? Which ones, how much? How much capacity do u get from the psu's?

no batteries usually when I do large amps ( rarely ) I use 2 exide 190Ah ( Commercial truck ) batts

I had a buss barr made from copper for awhile to use the array as a charger for 4-16 of the semi batteries //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif . just gotta be careful on amperage , any charger can smoke a battery if you have too many amps...

For a 25 amp multi stage charger its about on par cost wise as the others.Take in consideration that it is 25 amps and the others are 40+ amps.

If you are looking for a good charger a ctek mus 7002 is a good charger for the money. I would guess in many situations it would also pay for itself when dealing with older batteries.

The ctek looks good but they are charging $139 for a 7 amp unit. This is $159 (edit: $149) for a $25.

The ctek pulse charges at the begining of its cycle which really wakes up a battery...I have actually brought back batteries that were dead dead that other chargers wouldn't charge or said was bad. It is also faster than my 12 amp charger...The Ctek is also a 5 stage charger not a 3 and it also will not go over 14.4 or 14.7 depending on the mode and it monitors the battery in recondition mode.

it is just a regulated power supply...
the auto-mode is because it is regulated... it only supplies the power required based on the load

same as a PC power supply does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

and a decent used PC PS is 25$ and has upto 40-70 amps of REGULATED 12 volt power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
You'll be lucky to find 40 amps for under $60

You are completely right for charging the battery. This would be for a little different purpose.
This is a regulated charger, its more designed for mounting in the car. Hence, the aluminum case, mounting system and support for permanently wiring into the car. So, I'm thinking using it more as a permanently installed unit I can simply and easily connect in the garage to charge up or maintain the system when its parked a while.

Make sense?
I wouldnt see a huge market for them. for a guy that daily beats 160 is a bit much to buy that for. and the people that pour lots of money into thewir systems that could use it.. i mean I cant use it they are illegal for competing.. so it kind of cuts the market way down imo

want some pics with todays date? on a piece of paper?

i have at least 4 or 5 that i paid $5 each for at a local pc repair shop that were all pulls from dead towers and all have been tested and work..

and they can be daisy chained...

Is illegal to have one installed even if its not plugged in? And what do you think it would be worth if not $150?

They use them when they are giving demo's, while they are in the pits and usually leave them on while in the garage to keep their banks maintained.
