MDF is the most popular choice for enclosure builds for several reasons (mainly cost and performance) but it generates quite a health hazard over time. I have a good dust collection system and always wear a respirator but it is impossible to collect all the dust. As a result, I always have a light film of dust in my shop.
However, plywood generates much larger dust particles which are more easily captured by a dust collection system and easier to clean up. This results in a lower health risk.
My question is, would you the consumer be willing to pay more for a box if it were made out of a nice plywood or do you prefer MDF?
MDF = $30 a sheet
Birch/ Maple ply: $50 a sheet
Thank you for your input.
