This may seem like a pretty stupid question to some, but I got a Zapco C2K 9.0 amp http://www.zapco.com/prod/comp_prods/c2k90Frame.htm 2ohm version, and 2 JL 12W7's http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=9 in a Ported box tuned to 32hz. In the back of a 98 Integra.
It's all powered through Zapco Simbilink, the 0 distortion cables, and I got the VFM display for the 9.0.
Anyways, my buddy has a USAC CD and played a 35hz tone I think. The VFM display said we hit 350 watts on each sub and it sounded like a fukin supernova exploded behind me, almost shit myself and I'm paranoid my subs will blow cause it was retardedly loud at 350 watts each sub. Then he played it again and it showed on the Zapco 9.0 amp display that it put out over 1000+ watts to each sub and I couldn't believe how loud it was haha. He just turned it up that loud for about a second but I'm paranoid my subs will blow cause it was extremely loud, he thinks I was hittin around 145dB. My friend is a very experienced SPL guy and says I really shouldnt' worry but I just can't believe how loud it was I just think my subs might blow! They are 12W7's and arn't cheap to replace.
Am I acting completely paranoid like a total stereo newbie? should I be a bit worried about letting my subs hit over 1000watts each? I think my zapco display for the 9.0 is quite accurate, it was just stupid loud. But I heard someone say you can play 1000+ watts on a 12W7 all day with no worries but it doesn't make sense on how loud it was that the subs are compeltely fine doing like 145dB all day??? I would only be able to hit 1100watts on each sub cause the amp is regulated at 2200 watts. Also on the W7 power chart it says the 12W7 only goes into danger zone around 1500 watts??? Just wondering if hitting around I'm guessing 140-150dB on my subs each getting over 1000 watts each for over a certain period of time would even come close to hurting my subs? it's obviously all clean power going to the sub as the setup is 16volts with a 8volt preout Eclipse 8445 deck with a zapco SXSL.
Sorry for the long writeup, was just hoping to be clear and hoping for advice cause there's a dB drag thing going on in my city tomorrow and just wondering also what might be the optimal frequency to use to get the loudest dB as my friend told me different Hz hit different dB but I'm guessing if my sub box is tuned at 32hz the best and loudest tone I'd want 30, 35, or 40hz tone?
I remember before I got the display I thought I might blow my subs cause it was VERY loud and now after I got the display I realize i was only hitting around 100 watts?!?!? lol cause when he put the test tone on and hit over 350 watts on each sub i couldnt' beliee the W7 got that loud, then he hit over 1000watts and I got out of the car and my chest seemed to hurt a bit, or maybe just me acting like a hypochoniac haha
any professional advice is greatly appreciated! SPL buddy went houseboating so he won't be there to help me at the competition //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
