hi guys,

looking to inverting my sub. my box was built for this sub ( sq hdc3 15" )

running it on a ppi ba7000.1 amp at 1ohm .

the box it about 5^3 before sub and 34 tuned.

im just wandering if i loose output or ??

im thinking because the sub is now outside the box ill have better cooling and can take a little more power ?

Turn the box so the port is loading 6-8" off the rear.

why....

it sounds the best like that.

i have tried every way and it sounds the best that way.

i wish the sub and port were on the same side.

i was just wandering if inverting it would gain anything thats all.

as for cooling i would think it would be cooler inverted as the sub is not inside a box. yes its ported but how much heat can escape ?

Ah interesting. Never seen a port not loading off anything and sounding better. Is the sub getting hot? And how's that ba?

ya when i crank on it, it is getting hot.

about 2 weeks ago i was smelling the sub and thats not good. so was looking for a way of keeping it cooler.

and that ba amp is good. it has some power for sure. and it stays cool. and i love the duel fans on it.

so yes i like the ba amp.... thats why im starting to fry this sub lol...

well i did not fry it, it still works great. i just dont want it to happen again so i keep the bass down a little.

Primarily, the main attraction to inverting a sub is for aesthetics. Some subs have attractive baskets, motors, etc. By inverting the sub you can show these off.

Beyond this, it might be necessary because of space requirements (i.e. the box is shallow).

Inverting a sub makes the box ever so slightly "bigger"; If the sub's basket and motor aren't in the box the space they'd take up is now free.

When you make a ported box bigger it lowers the tuning, so this happens when you invert the sub (even if it's just a bit).

As far as cooling goes: inverting would improve it, but only if you're running it sealed with a lot of power in a small box where there's no exchange of air from the outside. With ported, the air inside the box is roughly the same as outside the box as the two are interchanges as the sub plays.

All that crap aside, try it, see if it makes a difference (even if it's all perceived). If you do it, be sure to change the phasing 180 degrees since you're flipping the speaker position.

Have you ever considered you are clipping it? If it has dual fans that means the casing is not enough to soak heat. Fans are cheaper than a good casing.

Sounds like you have signal issues or you're simply giving it more than it can handle thermally. If you're heating it up due to that inverting probably won't help much.

Have you tried turning it so port is rear and sub is up?

ya when i first got the box before i screwed it down i tried all sides to see what sounded better. and i got more output with sub back port up.

and you are right its getting to much power ( i was pushing it hard ). so i turned the gain down a little. and ya i set it with a ddm for 2000rms @ 1ohm.

i did that because i have my ppi bk1800.1 amp on it and it was fine.

but what do i expect the sub is rated fro 1500rms and im pushing more then that.

im going to reset it for 1800rms and live with it until i decide whether or not to get another sq sub or get 2 different subs.

i like my hdc3 15" but im getting to the point of wanting more. ( more db's )

yes i have...and dont down what i have.

if you want me to have better then buy it for me, if not dont down it.

i like it.
I'm not downing anything. Just telling why it has 2 fans. If you set it for 2000 and its cooking it you are not making a clean 2000 watts. You know enough about rise for me not to go into it.

ya im thinking at this point its my music ( tablet )

i need to test my music and see if it is clipping as im thinking it is.

when i was smelling my sub i was playing a new song i just downloaded to my table so im thinking thats my main problem.

as iv had this amp on this sub for about a month to 1-1/2 months and have had no problem.

and i am going to set it down the gain so i dont blow it for good. i cant afford that right now and im going to try the sub inverted and going to turn my box so the sub is up and port is back.

what sub would be good for this box and my ppi 7000 amp ? as im thinking of going with something that can handle more power. but im not rich so something like under $300 . maybe a sub rated around 2500rms. i want d2 .

as im getting to the point of wanting more, more bass,, more db's .

and im still when its all said and dont im going to have 2- 15" in this truck.

Where are you downloading your music from? I used to get all mine off frostwire. Looking back, it was not the cleanest signal. Now I either buy CD's or buy it from itunes
