Would a smaller box help?

Hello all,

I've got a sundown sa15 in 4 cubes after sub and ports. Low end is great but some music has some punch bass that just doesn't come through. I'm crossed over at 80 htz on the head unit box ported to 37 htz. I also pre ordered a cab 1600.1 from car audio bargains that hopefully will come soon. Would it be better to go to a smaller box let say 3 cubes after sub and port displacement?

Sundown recommends 3-4cuft at 35hrtz, so I would do smack dab in the middle, 3.5cuft after sub AND port displacement. My box is 5.4cuft gross, so after port and sub displacement, I end up with 3.5cuft at 31hrtz it is a bigass kerfed port.

How many inches of port? What your port specs?

Throw some wood in there first before rebuilding.

If it's lacking punchiness my guess is port needs tweaking.

Port is 2 4" round ports 9 1/2" long.

That's your problem. That's 6" port per cube... You need 3 4" areo that are 20" long to get your tunning where it needs to be.
