Hi,

Yesterday i got a Type R and a M-850 installed in my car yesterday

When i came to pick up the car they guy who serviced it told me to work in the voice coil for 4-5 days by not cranking it up too high and to keep my bass setting to -5. Im just wondering after the 4-5 days can i truly blast the system buy putting my bass to 0 and cranking the volume to around the 20 mark? Im just scared b/c i dont want to blow the sub.

also

is a new sub supposed to have that "burning" smell?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif:confused:

the guy told me that it should subside after 4-5 days.. is that normal?

THANK YOU!

Nothing wrong with a little smell. Most likely excess glue coming off.

As for the break in. Play it normally. It has nothing to do with the coil, the suspension has to loosen up a little. The easier you go on the sub, the longer it will take for the suspension to fully loosen up.

Go ahead an play it like you normally would. No need to wait some arbitrary time frame.

The driver will "break in" naturally over time with regular, normal use.

Keeping the volume low is actually counterproductive to breaking in the suspension (not the voice coil). In order to break in the suspension, you need to exercise it. Not using the suspension is not going to aid the break in process at all.

even after break in period, if you start to smell that burning smell from pushing it toooo hard you need to turn the volume down a bit.

i smell stinky coil on my sub every once in a while from playing certain songs, and i've had my sub for close to 2 years now. still plays flawless but i've heated up the coils pretty bad. just be easy on the volume. if you start to smell, just turn it down.
