Woot for tax returns. HDTV opinions/guidance needed

Stay far away from Toshiba. They were huge when the Floorstanding HDTV monitors (1080i or 720p, but no integrated ATSC tuner..... in other words needing a set top box for high def) but blew bulbs like crazy. Same thing has continued to happen in their DLP TVs. Now as far as I've heard their LCDs haven't been to bad, but I wouldn't chance it. I wouldn't buy anything from a company that has recently had the issues Toshiba has and still continue to have.

Hmm. The 42 inch can be had for a grand at Circuit City and HHGregg right now. I just don't know if I can justify a grand on a TV alone. If it helps, I will not be using this for a monitor*1080p argument* If I wanted to spend another 300 for that, I'd buy a 26 inch monitor. *shrug*
I'm leaning toward Toshiba and Panasonic though. They seem to be getting **** good revieiws on whichever site I go to. Sony and others have some nasty issues, but that could be atrributed to higher sales in those brands.

I'll be debating awhile, 3 weeks for the federal to come in.
I will deffinatly back those two choices in brands.

My parents have a Panasonic HD CRT, I have played Xbox on it in 1080i and it looks great, no blur nothing. (This is also like a 4yo TV when HD was new, and it still looks great).

I have a Toshiba (REGZA series) LCD, and it's great. There is a little "blur", but it looks really really good otherwise. I was leaning towards a plasma at first, but ended up getting an LCD b/c I wanted 1080p, and it was lighter (no burn in, and longer life, Which I now know were not even an issue).

Anyway, You won't be dissapointed with either brand. When you are spending 1000$ whats an extra 100 or 200 to get something nice?

Hmm...I think I'll have to pass on the plasmas overall. I simply don't need the size they come in, and I don't have the time or money to save to spend another 3-400 than I intend*college, some car payments*. But, thanks to I want SExxx, I may go with a Panasonic. I am reading reviews on the 32LX70's across five different sites. Can't really find anything truly negative, besides some nitpicking issues, or some slight contrast issues.

A grand isn't bad, but it is stretching my overall amount. Overall, going with Panny I think. Most of the reviews complimented the build quality and customer support. I remember having two Panny cd/mp3 cd players back in the day. Both survived tons of abuse, being used while using riding lawn mowers, school buses, falling. Lasted a **** long time with that.

I believe my friend has the 32 inch version, so I'll check his out some day between my tax return and now. I have 900 with returns and what I saved. I could probably fork a hundred or so over, but I was looking to get rock band....hm..

Also, I have a HTIB:laugh:. Sound quality of any of these TV's is nill. Receiver overall is nice, speakers leave a bit to be desired. But hell, I'm not complaining. My brother is having me babysit it while he is at basic/on base.

I know Jim, I know. But for videogame explosions and bullets, they're fine. When I have friends over, they're more concerned with seeing the game rather than hearing. Don't worry, I'll be piecing together some nice stuff in the coming year. I have a SansuiBA/CA 2000 combo awaiting a turntable and speakers for all my vinyls. All the digital stuff will have to be pieced together, with far more scrutiny than this.

Sorry I didn't read the whole tread but its to close to bed time so don't hate if you already got this info before, but look at a consumer reports magazine before you buy. They will break it down too repair issues, life expectancies and best pick. I personally like the Sony Bravia rear projection for all out performance. If you have a Micro Center in your area your in luck because so far they have the lowest prices on LCD's etc... If they aren't available try them on line or pm me and I'll look for one of their flyers that I receive in the mail. Regardless of what you choose don't let a lack of option make your final decision and good luck.

3 bad reviews for the Panny 32 inch....hmm..Not bad for 116.

The plasma is looking tempting, seeing as Samsung and SONY 32 inch LCD's are just as much as a 42..

Any TV's this big or more deserve more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
HAhaa. I'm using my TV speaker....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

I'm surprised no ones said this yet...

Buy something open box. We're dirt balling shit to get rid of it. I sold, earlier today, a sony kdl46v2500 for $1100. Thats a 46" 1080P lcd that across the store was $1800...and not a thing was wrong with it.

I am curious why people are not reccomending the 1080p for small sizes? Although not really in this convo, I bought a 30inch Samsung Slimfit for ~$500 and it does up to 1080i (although I am not sure how 'high' that ranks) When looking at recievers, I thought 1080p upconversion would be a great feature...so does 1080p matter or no?

I think it has to do with size and viewing distance. Most smaller sets are viewed more closely than larger sets, making any major resolution difference pretty small.

I see. I am about the same distance away as OP....for what I have it's pretty good on movies, but sucks on PS2. But it looks like all the extra home audio features I was considering may be useless.
