Woot for tax returns. HDTV opinions/guidance needed

Yeah. Game Informer and Popular Mechanics both gave the Vizio a thumbs up for bang for buck. Them being a budget line is only noticed on bigger sizes, evidently. I'm considering going to a dorm next year, don't need a big ***, or expensive, tv to risk breaking/getting stolen up there....hm. I'm currently waiting for some of the junkies to chime in.

I'd go with a Vizio 32" LCD. Plenty big if you're that close to the TV. Good pictures, affordable, recommended by the people at G4TV lol. Plus you seem to play a lot of games, and I still don't like the burn-in risk of plasmas.

Once again.

LOVE mine.

Hmmm. BUT plasmas are heavier than LCD's.

Seriously though. I think you are on the right track not going with a 1080p TV.

Also, go watch the TV's at the store... You will see the difference between plasma's and LCD's... Personally, I see a huge difference.

I dunno about that. The store's lights are bright, first off.

Secondly, every TV varies from another even within it's own type. So, comparing LCD vs. Plasma in store and seeing a difference is going to be hard unless you're looking at models with the same specs. Smell what I'm cookin?

Thirdly, the TVs in store are set to be super bright. You will (should) change the settings of it as soon as you get it home in most cases.

While it is good to compare in store, you really have to take it with a grain of salt. I think in store comparison is good as long as you've narrowed it down to a few TVs that are withing spec. And additionally cosmetics of the tv come into play.

Oh yeah.. I completely get what you are saying. After setting up my TV at home, it looks wayyyyyy better that it did in the store.

About the Plasma vs. LCD thing.. One huge difference is that Plasmas have a glass screen, LCD's have like some plastic matte thing. Personally, I kinda like the glass more, but LCD's have "truer" color, even though it can be changed LCD's supposedly give you truer colors... But really the main thing is the screen. I think the glass looks sharper, maybe I'm just crazy.. IDK.

32"-37" Vizio or LG, IMO.

And whoever said to get a 1080P model in this size is retarded...there is NO picture difference even with a blu-ray, and furthermore, if its used for the wii mostly anyways, what the f*ck would the 1080p resolution gain?

This is my 2minute drill on them since I sell them on a daily basis...

Vizio is probably THE best bang for the buck LCD out; business week, consumer reports and CNET agree. LG, huge electronics company, probably the best build, as well as feature that helps upscale analog and digital cable to "near-HD". I only use quotes since it really only helps marginally at best. Either one you go with, your not going to be disappointed...

My parents bought a 37" Vizio from Costco awhile back. Has a good image an all but the TV took a dump in like its 4th month of use. Luckily Vizio replaced it, but their customer service was alright. Id give it a 7.5/10. To me they came of kinda as a prick. O well got a new TV an they paid for shipping for the old one to go back to them.

new vizio is ALOT different than the older vizio stuff, My little bro got a vizio for christmas, the picture is very "white" almost a grainy overlay. But as everyone said its not a bad tv... my rents have a older vizio ( 50" widescreen, about 4 years old ) and its pos, inputs are very odd. just not a good product.

LG is a very pimp tv, and its price reflects that. After doing some major shopping around this christmas my dad bought a 60" Panasonic 1080P plasma which is the bomb diggity. So you may want to look into the panasonic tv....

If it was my choice I would buy a LG in that size...

Problems list, and picture: 3 LED DLP > DLP > LCD > Plasma (new plasmas are looking better)

The experienced opinion is now that 42" or less, you really wont get the benefit of 1080i, so 720p will be fine. The market is flooded with sets, so look for the options you want, multi HDMI, etc.
