Wood Thickness Question

I know this is probably a stupid question but what happens if you use wood that is to thin for the subs on your box. I have 2 12" Alpine type X subs powered by two 2 Alpine PDX 1.1000 amps but it just doesn't seem to sound right. The only thing I can think of is the wood I am using might be flexing some. I am using 1/2 mdf. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have ran sealed in the past there just is not enough out put for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
Have you tried your X's in a sealed box? They do not spec out to be ported-friendly woofer. They require large boxes tuned low to get a good response curve out of them. Doing a normal 2.25ft^3 at 35hz is going to make them peak high and have poor low-end. I'd shoot for 3ft^3 each tuned to 27-28hz or something like that.

Out of curiosity, what is it about your current box that you don't like? Is there a specific area where output is lacking?

My current boxes sound pretty good they are built to spec from alpines recs subtracting the extra .25 inch that im not using. My problem is they seem to not follow through on some of the base notes so i was thinking that it could have been from box flex or something if that is even possible.
