Well if you saw my first box that was a real upset. It was also sealed, was kind of my trial build just to have a feel for what I'm looking at when I build the ported, which I'm currently doing.

Didn't make the mistake of having HD do the cuts for me this time. I had borrowed my uncles skilsaw this time and although some cuts are like 1mm too short or long, its almost perfect after screws and glue.

Thanks to Mr. Cabinetry for the plans //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif, I still feel guilty for not paying you for it.. I did a few small alterations but only one or two pieces.

note: about the duct tape. I read on one of the threads a few days ago saying someone used duct tape to fix a air leak and it works or something. It's glue sealed, siliconed, and then duct taped just incase I missed anything haha. If anything it's not hard to peel off.

Onto the pics..

Woot! actual flush corners this time! Not bad for 2nd time using a skilsaw

P1010366.jpg

Not sure what to cover the floor with for the glue droppings, I guess I gotta put that Macy's sale catalog to use somehow

Port

P1010372.jpg

why did you change it?
First box was really ugly and it was about an inch too tall to go all the way back to my back seat, so it was kinda floating in the middle of my trunk since that was as far back as it would go. T

he sealed was kind of just a test build to see what to expect for the second build (Which I'm glad I did since if I had HD cut the pieces for the ported it would've been horrid! and much more expensive since its like 2x the wood)

From reading reviews of the IDQ it seems that most people like to go ported, and I for one never had a sealed box, but the sealed box I made I didn't really like the sound of it; didn't go low enough. It might be because it was sitting in the middle of my trunk since it oculdn't move anywhere else

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

Did you have it faced the front or back?
And you said it was an inch tallk **I think** excessive air space makes it do weird things, i.e. not get low enough.
it was facing the rear bumper side. The box was 1.48cu ft. and 1.55cu is what was recommended. O well though, got this box to pop in this by the end of the week. got everything together but too lazy to upload pix. ill update on thursday when i carpet it. When are you gonna build your new box? saw your plywood box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif reminds me of that sealed box i first made.. except worse, haha. having good cuts made a huge difference on the outcome of the box. dont let HD cut your wood! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsdown.gif.d22f25895e9b40f2300c953691dacfa2.gif

test fit + I forgot to cut the port hole while doing the cuts at uncles place, but I did have a skilsaw. So I just cut it to sit flush with port piece #1, shouldn't make a difference should it? (The part on the right) I don't think it'll be too noticable after carpeting

P1010395.jpg

Test fit, looks like its good to go to mount the front baffle!

more to come

Not cutting the port hole out of that baffle piece shoudln't make a big difference. You wont' be able to notice the difference. the tuning should be the slightest bit higher.

also, when using screws, you don't have to wait for the glue to dry before moving on to the next piece.

if you can get a hold of a router w/ a flush trim bit, then you can flush all the edges together and fix that outer port wall.

good job for your 2nd time.

Thanks for the tips =). I don't really mind the side piece i was gonna make something to slide stuff in but changed my mind after starting to build it, it's gonna be against the side of the car anyway so it wouldnt make a difference.

Meanwhile, more pix!

Onto glueing

The box looks MUCH better than the last one. Great job!
thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

anyone know if an idq 15 will be able to get louder than a 12" type r? (if both ported box and ~600w rms)

want some kind of anticipation of what to expect when i pop this in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Carpeted and in the car within an hour of the ups man's arrival! Havn't got any pictures of it in the car sine it was starting to get dark outside and in a rush to get it hooked up and tested. Havn't really tuned the amp yet besides the gain but it sounds 1000000x better than that sealed box i made! AND i didnt even touch the tuning yet.

Anywho, here's a few pics, Ill snap some of the car pics tomorrow when its bright.

Before hooking up the terminals inside the box

P1010413.jpg

**** I love these terminals! 6$ well spent

P1010414.jpg

Yeah i know, but you can't really see it since the navi unit is covering it anyway, that was the hardest part to carpet in the whole box sine it was all weird shaped!

P1010415.jpg

Whatever, back of the box, and did i say those terminals are awesome?

I have a question:

The IDQ seems to be a low beast but seems to be missing some highs, but it may just be my tuning? here's what my tuning is at right now, which knob is for the highs?

Thanks
