Wiring up Alpine 9855R

Right well, im trying to wire up my alpine CD player to my peugeot 106 1996 model and having a bit of problems.

Basically. Everything on the top iso connector matches up (where all speaker wires are for front right/left and rear right/left) those all matched up automatically with the current male iso connector my 106.

The problem comes in when looking at the bottom portion of the iso connector. The ground wire live wire etc. My 106 has 4 wires, visually 2 are fatter wires so obviously the live and the ground. But the colours are not black and red. The one wire is yellow and the other is light blue so i have no idea how to know which is to go to the black ground and the red live on the alpine female iso connector. There are also 2 other wires which confuse me.... a very thin orange wire and a smaller than the ground and live but bigger than orange pink wire.

Any advice or thoughts?

Use a test light or multi-meter to see whats power and ground.
Yeh im going to do that tomorrow a friend of mine just said to me how.

Also ive heard you shouldnt just fit a CD player up... cause it may draw more power through the live wire and could possibly damage it (something about guage possibly being to low). I do know its a standard 12v wire cause my old radio cassette says so.

Any thoughts?

Bump anyone?

Are you going to be using the power from the deck for speakers or will you have an external amp? You only really need to worry about beefing up the factory wiring for hte power to your deck if you are going to be running speakers hard off the deck power. Otherwise, the current draw isn't that high.

Im going to be running component speakers off the deck. Is this bad lol. I mean if i do have to upgrade power wires. Any suggestions what guage i should get and how i even go about doing such a thing as removing old factory power wire and putting in a new one. Also which wires would need to be upgraded...? the constant and the ignition or just the constant wire.

Edit: these ones to be exact http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3967.html

I mean im considering putting amp in at a later date..... but thats quite far off id ideally like to run speakers off the HU for a while to come.

Well If you're really worried about it, here's what I would do...

Run 12ga to the battery. Fuse it near the battery with a 20A fuse. Run it to an automotive relay. The output of the relay goes to the switched lead of the deck (yellow or yellow/red). The factory ignition switched wire is used as a trigger for the relay. The factory constant wire can be used as is since all it really does is maintain the memory for the station presets and so forth. Don't use the factory ground in any case. The Alpine harness should have a terminal on the end of the ground wire, ground this to structural metal under the dash.

Thanks for the suggestion very helpful. Anybody care to add any ideas of their own or add anything more to help me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif .

Edit: what about just replacing original factory ignition wire with a better guage? simply ripping out old wire putting new higher one in?

i think the ground cable is enough.

Easier to run a new one actually. The factor one is going to be buried in a factory loom for most of its length and a total PITA to get out. Easiser to just run what you need and then switch it with the factory wire.

Ok thanks. Im gonna check with a friend of mine. I mean hes got a powerful cd player in his old car its a JVC and he said he never replaced wires or anything and his car is fine.

I mean im not even sure if i need to replace the wire. Hopefully not. Its a hell of a job :S.

I mean the factory power wires etc should have fuses. I mean if i was going to have a wire meltdown the fuses should blow first shouldnt they? then id know.... time to install a new power wire lol.
