Wiring up 2 batts...

Yes diode based isolators tend to display more voltage loss than relays, or of course wiring direct. This was especially true many years ago, but isolators have gotten better in recent years... not a real big issue anymore from what Ive seen. But yes, that was always my reason for chosing a relay over an isolator, Ive pretty much gotten use to setting them up with relays now. Relays tend to be cheaper than isolators too.

 
Audioholic what does the relay you use look like?Is it the common small ones?

Many car audio companies sell them, usually for $40-$50. But its a standard industrial 200amp relay, they all get them from the same supplier Im sure. Here's a link to one marketed by Stinger...

here is how i wired my 2 batteries this weekend. i hope this helps. i didnt use any isolators tho.
