wiring neon string?

I bought a neon string awhile ago and now im puttin them in my trunk. It has a cigarette lighter but is there a way i can hook it up to my battery? Strip the 2 wires and put one to the battery and one to ground?

well that should work as long as it needs it can handle the 14.4 volt power supply...i'm not sure what a cigarette lighter voltage is but i'm pretty sure it doesn't change when the car is started. You might need a resistor...

What kind of wire do i use to make the original wire longer? Just find the same guage wire?

yeah, just wire
