0ga Power Wire/Distrubution/Fuse Question

I want to run about a 3' length of a 0ga wire from my battery which is in the trunk to a unfused distrubution block, then out of the block with (2) 4ga wire leads which will each be fused w/ANL fuses. I know that the school of thought is to fuse the power wire as close to the battery as possible, but since I am only using about 3ft of 0ga before splitting the power is it totally necessary in this application? Thanks for the help!

18" is generally seen as the max distance from a battery to a fuse.

thats a whole 3' of unprotected wire. plus an unprotected distro block aswell...
