wiring issue

Got 'Roids?
my ipod cable shorted at the connector, and took with it my switched 12v line, or my constant 12v line. basically i cannot get anything audio related to work on those wires unless i hook them ( the deck and amp) straight up to the battery. i know the components will drain the battery if left on there. can anyone help me as to re-wiring the 2 shorted wires? or should i just hook them to the battery and buy a relay switch for them (deck and amp)?

Something similar happened to me. I just took the +12 going to my A/C (it has a button that makes it swivel, more specifically) and tapped into that for my remote wire + HU. You could also use the lighter +12

well the thing is i want to find a 12v wire closer to the hu, i cant take my dash apart.... its an 04 cavy, and its already falling apart. i guess ill have to keep trying to find another 12v line... thanks rashaddd.

anyone else have a similar problem?/

is there a way to check the the wires to see if power is going through it?

i have a dmm but it has a + and - where would i put those on 1 specific wire to test?

eyes. i didnt know you can check them with a dmm... ive never had anything short so thats why im noobishly asking these questions.

fuse on the h/u is fine, i hooked it up to the battery and it turned right on.

i looked in the fusebox on the side of my dash, didnt see anything black or seperated. then looked in the engine compartment and those fuses looked fine, but theres these grey cubes plugged in there, are those fuses?

i have checked all the fuses buddy thats why its an issue

check fuses in the fuse panel inside the car, and under the hood with a test light or dmm..

it's going to be a fuse..

i have seen fuses that look perfectly fine but are bad before

ok how would i check it with a dmm? just put the pos and neg on either side of the fuse connector? and what should i set it to? volts ac or dc?
you can do this 2 ways, set DMM 20v dc ground the black lead, and test both sides of fuse whith red while fuses are in fuse box.

or put the DMM on continuity check and test the fuses themselves to see if they are bad or good. DMM should beep if fuses are good. basiclt both test leads on both sides of fuse, out of fuse holder.

ok, im going out in awhile to check all of the fuses. more than likely it should be a fuse in the engine compartment right? theres a list in my indash fuse panel that says what each fuse goes to, and i wanna try to narrow it down to a few so i dont have to check fuses that arent relevent to the problem. would it be a power accessories fuse? or a battery fuse?

HOLD UP, 2004 cavi is a data class II car, you have an aftermarket hu, did you install it?

if so did you use something similar to a gmos-o1 (metra)

or a cheapo with the extended ignition (if so i assume you would know where you tapped into it at)
