wiring a crossover

so. components come with x-overs and i have my own x-over intended from subs and front and back. so do i wire from the outputs on the hu to the x-over then to the amp for mids and hi's or hu to amp to x-over that comes with the speaker. or wire it with both x-overs. im kinda not sure wat to do?

If it's an electronic crossover, it should be installed before the amp. Passive crossovers, like the ones that come with most component sets, are installed between the speaker outputs on the amp and the speakers.

How you set up the crossovers really depends on what kind of equipment you're installing. Which head unit, crossover and speakers are you using?

hu: alpine cda-9857 400$

speakers : type r coaxles 100 rms 190$

x-over:boss.

like i was wandering if you supposed to use both x overs. or wat one. if coaxles dont come with x overs tell me as if they were component please i just need an idea. thx

Your first statement says Components come with crossovers and then you state you have CO-Axials? So heres the deal, Your amp can send different frequenceys to your speakers. Every speaker has a certain range of frequencys it can use correctly. Components are basicley 2 sets of speakers. 2 Mid Bass speakers and 2 Tweeters. You cannot set an amp to send the correct signals for both types seperately so what you do is send all the Mids and Highs to a passive cross over. Amp to crossover. Then you send the highs to the tweeter and the Mids to the Mids. Crossover to speakers.

If you do not have components and have Co-axials then forget about cross overs and set up your amp to send the corect frequencys to your speakers.

Now unless your going to wire Active crossovers then thats a whole other story.

^^^I know how it works and that confused me.

The Boss crossover that you have and the crossovers that come with component sets serve two different purposes. The Boss crossover that you have is probably a 2-way model that is meant to divide the frequencies between the amp to drive a sub and the amp that drives the mids and highs. It is only needed if your amps don't have crossovers built in. probably 90% of amps currently on the market have some type of crossover built in that will work in place of the Boss unit.

The crossovers that come with component sets work after the amp to divide the freqs between the mid and the tweeter. You will usually need an active crossover of some sort to limit the low freqs on the amp to keep the mid from getting the freqs meant for the sub, but as above, the vast majotiry of current amps have this built in. You just have to turn it on and set it.
