Wiring a Cd Face Plate into Sun Visor

ribbon cable and lots of small solder joints are the only way i've found of doing it. I usually take the front off of the deck so you can still remove the face from the visor and solder onto the solder terminals inside the deck.

loading CD's is the only problem with an install like this. You still need access to the chassis or a CD changer to overcome the problem.

I have made a new front for the chassis so it is easy to load cds... the eject button stays on the faceplate in most cases. A cleverly mounted CD changer is,imho, the best way around it... then the chassis to the HU can be hid anywhere.

I talked to Alpine and they claim it cant be done? This is starting to disappoint me here. Pete where did you purchase the solder joints at? As for the ribbon cable did you get a custom cable made or did you just alter a 40 pin ide cable?

You don't purchase solder joints... you just use a soldering iron and solder the ribbon cable to the pins on the actualy circuit board. You HAVE to be really good at soldering to not wreck anything.

I used 40 pin ide even though I didn't need all the conductors. It is possible to roll the cable and tape it up so its more round than flat... and easier to hide.
