wiring a 6ohm speaker to a 4 ohm amp

Well I'm a newbie & got some components for cheap. I have a Boss amp 4ohm rated @ 1600w. I've been told that these amps are WAY overrated and rated for max pwr. I'm also wiring 2 Audiobahn Alumq12's to this amp. I hear the same about these subs being overrated. These are rated @ 6ohm and 1000rms. Leads me to my ? Will this amp hold a 3ohm load if i bridge it?

Great site. Had to register. Lots of help here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

It may hold the load for a bit, although my past experiences with boss have not been good ones. You really cannot abuse them for long periods of time before they let out a fart of magic smoke.

I would go ahead and do it, but keep the gains low. And shop for a new amplifier.

Thanks for the reply Johne. Yea I heard the same thing pretty much. Just wanted a second opinion. I also read a thread about the alumq's ratings needed to be divided 1/2. And they aren't hitting the LOW notes. So I might get away with a 6 ohm load. I'll give it a try and let ya'll know how it goes!

Alum Q's are dual 6ohm thus there are many ways to wire them up. You should be using both voice coils whenever possible. Failure to use one on each results in the speaker only being able to use half of the overinflated recommended power handling. What is the exact model# of the BOSS amplifier?

I might think that those woofers are like the old JL W6, that when you bridge three of them they give you the 4 ohm load for the amp.

I don't think it will be a good idea to run those two bridged into a 3 ohm load for that amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

My recommendation will be to run one on each channel of your amp, since you said its gonna be bridged I assume it's a two channel amp.

My 2 cents
