Wiring 1700 watt amp to 4 ohm

Just got my new SSA LW1.1700d amp in the mail, unfortunately I only have one working type r to test it out on atm. Is it going to be safe for the sub if I give it 700 watts at 4 ohms. Or even 1200 watts at 2 ohms?

The sub is a 12 inch Alpine Type R DVC 4 ohm.

Voice coils look like this

Im guessing I take one wire from the positive on one voice coil and the other wire from the negative on the other voice coil to get a 4 ohm load from the single sub?

A little bit knowledgeable on this stuff, but just want to be sure haha.

Well you can't wire a DVC 4 ohm sub to 4 ohms...

Can I wire it to 2 ohm and give it 1200 watts? The sub is rated at 500 rms/1500 peak rms.

Yes you can... Just because an amp will put out that much doesnt mean you have to give it that much power... Do a little reading around on gain settings...

4x 40 amp fuses.

Haven't tested the amp yet haha, posted on here first to make sure I wasn't going to do anything stupid.

Ok, so I just hooked it up, played a 50hz test tone, while reading the voltage output (AC) from the positive and negative speaker outputs, I was only get from 1-10 volts 10 volts when I turned the bass boost all the way up. The recommended voltage for my setup is 58.3 volts. Did I possibly hook something up wrong? The volume was at 30, the max volume on my deck is around 40 before it starts distorting.

Well you can't wire a DVC 4 ohm sub to 4 ohms...

This. You should've gotten the DVC 2-ohm version and wired it in series to reach a 4 ohm load.

 

I know it's a Type R' date=' but they're not durable enough to handle 1200w. Not the 12s.

 

The 15s..maybe.

 

You could try running it @ 2 ohms, but you'd have to be really careful w/ your gains, etc..[/b']

I am just going to wait until I get another working Type R then wired them both to 1 ohm.
