Wire too big

Is it possible to have too thick of wire for big 3 and to amps? (with step-down/copper converter)

I ask because I have the opportunity to get really cheap 750KCmil wire, or 4/0 welding wire. (Brother in law is in the electrical and construction business) and it's very thick. I'd do tie downs under the car and cut a hole to run it directly to the batteries in the back.

Sure won't hurt. It'll be a pita to run, though. On the bright side, you'll be all ready for your triple alternator and ten battery setup!

As long as you don't have issues on fastening it... bigger is better for power wire... Can you hook me up with 25'' or so? lol
I'm going to visit the fam. tomorrow and see what he has/can get. That's 9.5/0 wire though, lol. If I go that route... I'd probably be bolting it to the car with wire clamps. Probably need to see if someone/he can fabricate me some battery posts to hold it lol

What would I fuse it at?

I don't know if it's wrong or not but the local shop told me if I go to big I'll get voltage drop? He said it would handle the amperage fine but the voltage would drop?

I don't see how that's possible.

The way I fuse wire is based on the amps you are running.

Fuse shouldn't be much higher than all the amps current draw. Which you can tell by looking at your amps fuses.

Local shop is retarded.

I figured as much when they tried selling me power acoustik components for 300 dollars. I looked him in the eye and said you've got to be kidding me? Then he went on about how they were high quality competition grade blah blah blah.. Which is why I hate my local shops. One carries the big industry names and basically admitted to me they marked up almost 200%, and the other has low end crap they sell at high prices too. *rolls eyes*

Realistically though, if the wire is too big for me to install I'm gonna look into some 2/0 or 4/0 and call it good. I still need some 1/0 for the girls car though.

Haha, I'll let you know what's up soon. I'll be without internet for a few days though, going to the mountains this weekend.

At a certain point that voltage drop maybe true. But you would have to have some crazy ***, huge, rediculous wire for that to be an issue...

I've got 2/0 if that's what you're looking for west.

I can't even imagine going to 4/0 on the big 3, isn't that stuff rated close to 1000 amps at that short of a run ?
