wire redcers

W/ less than .5" of wire being reduced unless your stupendously worried about fractions of fractions you wouldn't notice any difference... plus it should make a more solid connection (I would think) since essentially you're not removing wire.

You're going from loose strands to a solid piece of metal. That should compensate for the reduction in diameter. Heat disipation is the only concern really, and it isn't a concern at all given that it is such a small section.

actually i am worried about fractions.. tenths will make a big difference when i get done //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

If your amp is okay at 8 gauge then trimming just one end of 4ga wire down to the size of 8 is better than 8 gauge. Do not use a wire reducer if you can avoid it because it will just add the resistance of another connection. Someone mentioned solid wire; do not use solid wire if you're using an amp with the set-screw type wire connector because those need the wire to smoosh to get a good connection. If you're using spade terminals then solid and stranded are both okay, though crimping those connectors is much easier with stranded.
