Wire question

Ok so in about 6 weeks my best friend is coming back from basic training in Misouri. Me and him are gonna install a system, that was not under my supervision when bought lol, when he gets back. He has 2 kicker comp 12s and a ZX400.1. I work with my uncle doing scrap metal and we have a client who does tons of electrical work and he had about 60 foot of 8ga and 150 foot of 12ga that he gave me. I was wondering if this wire would work as the power/ground (8) ad speaker(12) for his car.

12 is fine for speaker but your going to have to go bigger than 8 for power/ground. Try a 4 gauge

8awg is too small for less than 500watts rms?

I used to have the same amp with 8awg and it ran fine.

8 awg should be ok for a daily.

Since you already have the wire, you could do multiple runs of 8 ga. I believe two runs of 8ga. is equal to one run of 4ga. Make sure you do multiple runs of ground wire also, if you go this route.

I should be able to do 2 runs of power and ground since i have about 60 ft of it and its goin in a 06 civic lol

i have the exact same amp but different sub. was using 8awg for a long time and just added a second run of 8awg for my power/ground and it sounds alot better. I fused each run separately and it hits harder now. Also upgraded speaker wire at the same time.

Thats good to noe lol, so get a fuse for each run and what size speaker wire u using?

i was using 12 up until i upgraded now using some 8 that I had extra. what is your amp's birthsheet rating?

uhh, havent looked at it in like 8months lol but i think it was like 485 or 487 almost 500@ 2ohm
