And then you use the minimum force possible, the mentally ill person kills someone, and you get sued for not using ENOUGH force. Or, you get killed yourself.

Do you get judged by 12 or carried by 6?

I look at like this, if my wife and children were on that subway with some guy ranting about "I'm not afraid to die," then I hope somebody would step up and do something.

It's easy to say what the minimum force necessary is in a hypothetical situation or after the fact...only the people actually involved know what is necessary in the heat of the moment...

A great example is portrayed in the movie “Sully”. All of the pilots who were able to do it better WITH 20/20 hindsight.
