I will break it down for you, the laymen. It states that tubes are generated inside the hollow parts of bones and in these "tubes" run the nerves. These tubes run throughout the bone and allow the nerves to pass through them.

Take a ball point pen. The outside is the bone. Inside is the tube that holds the ink (the nerves), this is the lamellae. Inside the lamellae is the ink (the nerves).

If you don't break the "canal" and you feel pain then it is most likely form the nerves in the surrounding skin/tissue.

You're not getting it. It's like when you drive your car through a tunnel, you're not in the tunnel, your car is in the tunnel, your clothes are inside the car and you're inside your clothes. You are 2 degrees removed from being inside the tunnel. Your problem is you're too analytical. This isn't Quantum Mechanics, this is the English language and in the English language nothing can be in 2 places at once.

As an English major, I have to say this is completely consistent with how "in" is used throughout the language. If A resides in X and X resides inside Y, we would never say A resides in Y. In Quantum Mechanics "A" can reside in two places, but not in the English language. For example, if I ask you where is your phone, you don't say "in my pocket." You would say, "My phone is in it's case." Think about it, if somebody calls you and asks where you are, you've never answered "in my house" or "in my bedroom." You'd say, "I'm in my new suit" or "I'm in my pajamas."
