windows registry help

since i have started down loading movies and watching them on my computer i have noticed that like 3out of like 10 come up with a codec error . im wondering if it could be because im still running the old IE 6 and the old windows media player. but when i go to update it says it cant cause theirs registry errors . the question is are their any good (free or otherwise down loadable ) registry cleaners out there that will fix all of the errors cause according to reg cure i got like 800 errors . Don't know if its true or not but IMO would int the computer run real bad and freeze up if their was that many
