windows 7 home premium $29 (students)

This is true, however, I don't believe a computer manufacturer would waste a 64 bit processor for a 32 bit OS.
So untrue. Almost all processors now are 64-bit capable. The only ones that arent are old as fvck.

I had an HP laptop that was a total piece of shit. Came with a 64-bit AMD TL-56 processor, 2 Gbs ram, and a 32-bit OS. Completely did no justice to the processor at all.

I built the computer myself about a year and a half ago. It has an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ which is a 64-bit processor.

Looking at the comments posted, it is probably worth me jumping to 64-bit Windows 7, huh? What exactly are the benifits?

how is the one in the OP a full retail version when the link says upgrade and even the picture posted is a picture of an upgrade box?
i guess if you read the whole thread it becomes clear it is the full version, but not by looking at the OP

i get mine free through work anyway
nDeed.

Most programs used to not take advantage of 64bit anything, but now you can...

Well I preordered windows 7 student edition after reading this thread. Now I try to install it and it doesnt work. I download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor program and find out that since I have Vista Buisness edition I need to update to Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 ultimate. So I guess this means the student edition Windows 7 home will not work on mine?? If so does anyone know where to find the other editions cheaper than $200?? Thanks.

you can use the version you already got.. you just cant "upgrade" meaning you need to do a clean install. Don't fret though, because a clean install is preferable to an "upgrade" anyways.

Make a bootable disk and proceed with a clean install.

you should just be able to put the disk in and reboot the machine.....when the computer begins to start press f12 and a boot menu will come up. select the cd drive and it will take it from there.

1. follow these instructions: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11194 and burn the DVD

2. Make sure your computer is set to boot from CD in the bios

3. Install from the DVD you made in step 1.

Be sure to back up all the files you care about before you start the install because you will lose them if you dont.
