Young or not, you can't throw someone the keys to your vehicle and let them walk away ignoring you like they're gonna decide what's what. Im guessing the guy didn't take you seriously because you look young and didn't assert yourself.
In PA there is no set %age, the law defines legal as the cop being able to see through the front windows. Most shops tell you blocking 70% or more of usable light is generally considered the limit, but they'll also go as deep as you want them to. At a certain point though they will ask for cash and won't give a receipt. But I have never had anybody treat me like that and if they did I'd take my keys back.
You are young and anxious and eager to get your new mod. Beleive me, I know the feeling. But alot of times if you rush without being sure of what you really want first you end up having to pay for things twice and waste more of your own time. Been there, done that, believe me.
And by the way I have had the small untinted line at the edge on both tint jobs I've had done at two different shops. The way it was explained to me is stopping a sliver short of the edge of the window helps it adhere or something like that.
