Will this RE HC setup work well?

Here is what I am thinking, but remember I am not an expert. I'm just trying to add some bass for under $1000 and take advantage of the $300 RE HC deal that hopefully has not expired yet.

2x RE HC 12 inch ------$300 for the both including shipping

(if I can still get that deal)

1x JBL BP1200.1 Power Series Mono AMP ------$270 including shipping

Which of the two boxes would be better for the subs? Or neither?

Would the below link be the right wiring for them?

Is that amp gonna be able to run those subs to their capability?

Is there anything that would be good to change without affecting my total cost too much?

ok i just order a pair oc HCs as well and its 300+shipping so you know. The subs youll be gettin handle up to 1200RMS dont forget so you could give them a little more powr than 600w a piece. go for a ported box because the HC will do better with that then a seled and if you have more room for a bigger box the go for a bigger one. I still am kinda of new at this so if im wrong just let me know. hope that helps

In a big enough ported box, 600w can potentially reach the limits of their mechanical linear travel, so I wouldn't worry as much about the amp as I would the box.

It is ALWAYS better to build your own box if you have the know how, than to get a prefab box.

I understand it is better to build a custom box but I am not yet capable of understanding how to optimize it. Are there such things as successfully sounding fiberglass custom ported boxes? Because thats really what I would love to build myself this summer if someone could help me to understand how to design it. Until then I will still have to buy or build something just to hold me off until then.

If you go to http://www.reaudio.com and click on the tech link, then click on the enclosure link, then click on dual, it shows a diagram of a ported box sortof. If I built one like the one pictured there out of MDF, would it work good or would it still be better to try something bigger?

Yeah! Build your own box, it is worth every penny and it is a fun learning experience.

Ok threads like this should be answered by someone who has or does own an HC.

Avoif pre-fab if you can, but if you have to get a pre-fab, DO NOT get a sealed box, HC's don't sound good unless ported.

Wired at a two ohm load across the coils, the JBL will reach maximum output with 1200 watts, delivering 600 watts apiece.

600 watts to one in a ported box will be fine....it won't reach it's complete linear travel or BL peak, but it will do nicely.

Agreed much better amp then the JBL. The box is a little small id look into getting a bigger one or one built for you. If you get ahold of LoneRanger on this forum he can build you a good box. his website is http://www.gnomeaudio.com

NO WHERE do they say actual tuning. check out http://www.gnomeaudio.com like the above said...it will sound better and be of MUCH better build quality. good luck, peace
