Will this box handle a 15

Will this box: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2474910025&category=38647 handle a XXX 15? I know the sub needs 2 cubes and this box is 2.45 - .21 displacement = 2.24 however I'm wondering if the 5/8" MDF is thick enough. ... also do sealed boxes need a double baffle? .... opinions welcome...

i guess im the first to suggest that you go with a ported enclosure?

XXX's will perform just fine in a sealed enclosure....the problem is your sub is worth $400 and that box is worth $25 (less than that, actually). 5/8" MDF is not worth your time. Do it right the first time.

originally i was going to go for ported, found good plans for 4 cubes, built a mock up out of cardboard boxes and was saddened. the problem is that i wouldn't be able to get the box into the trunk. my trunk is about 32 w X 16 h X 25 d ... the box is 30 x 16 x 23.25 (found it on this site) and i couldn't get it in without bending the cardboard, too bad i can't turn my entire trunk into the box. hehe.

Well, if you HAVE to go sealed. Then go sealed. But for gods sake, just like Gauntlet said, the sub is worth $400, and that box is "$25". Spend the $25 it'll cost to make a box that'll be bigger and more durable.

You can get it in, my trunks dimensions are very similiar to yours, but I managed to fit a 4.3 cuft ported box in there. Look at how tight the fit is:

agreed gauntlet & biabia, i need to do this right. i'm gonna do a wedge type box with measurements 26.5w X 16h X 11d1 X 18d2 ~ 2.7 -.21 = 2.49 cubes. do i need to do double baffle?

As far as double-baffling, it's not really necessary, but it certainly doesn't hurt. It's worth the extra 4 or 5 bucks and half-hour of time in my opinion.

related question, is it bad to port a box that isn't "big" enough? like could i make my box 3 cubes with the port even though online says to do 4 cubes
