Will the plane take off?

Reason for changing my mind it that i kept thinking of the planes wheels as being in gear, when in actuality they would be more like in neutral so no matter how fast the treadmil goes it will just spin the wheels on the plan as the plane is moving forward.
EXACTLY, now your getting it

But not initially....

if the plane just sat on the TM without propellers, it would eventually fall off the back.

What has to occur for flight to take place is that the plane's thrust must overcome the treadmill before a) falling off the back and b) obtaining lift before running out of real estate.

I am still curious about this 1/4 treadmill. The belt would be over 1/2 mile long....that is freaking crazy.

But are they strong enough to hold up a plane? Even an ultralight plane has to be close to a ton.
Honestly I worked at a Walmart dist center we had miles of conveyors there that had well more then a ton on them at one time each belt was smaller then a quarter mile but they were incredibly long.

Not really that crazy. Coal mines often use conveyors reaching up to a mile or more. A tread mill is really no more than a sturdy conveyor.

Where I am puzzled is by how fast they need to get this conveyor/treadmill moving. Then again maybe it isn't all that fast since they will be using an ultra light which shouldn't need much speed and lift to obtain flight.
